Why does this even bother you? You are in a gaming forum. Any hobbies talked about in earnest outside of gaming is a plus here. Reddit is a great place to go for finding people that share your special interests. You can find almost any group under the sun there. Being annoyed to the point that you feel the need to make this topic on the subject is a waste of time because this wont make things better for you. That time would be better invested in a community that cares and shares interests in your hobbies.

Im a huge Overwatch League fan. When I make a topic about it here, I expect little traction and people being close minded to my hobby. It makes sense. I can go to other areas on the internet if I want a community dedicated to it.

Going out in an outfit you put the time into designing as something unique and that you enjoy wearing, then having tons of people either just staring at you or approaching and complimenting you to ask where you got your things is pretty addicting.

Those dont need to be pricy hobbies, nothing about fashion, food or art needs to be expensive to be good.

I'm pretty sure that unnecessary association is the reason people have an issue with these things specifically.

it's not that i'm even concerned with being able to discuss hobbies outside of computers/gaming earnestly on here (as i mentioned in another post, i already visit other forums for those things) as much as it is that i just think it's annoying and shitty that people live up to the whole computer/gamer nerd stereotype and actively go out of their way to rag on things that aren't computers/gaming

I have to agree with TC.

Sometimes it does seem like the majority of CE is against anything that isn't video games, fast food, and more video games.

Being open-minded regarding different interests is never a bad thing. Wish there was more of that here

Same. The way I look at it, we're all stuck here for a reason. And I feel like for a lot of peeps it's a bit of antisocial personalities and an "all about me me me" attitude. So they can't help but post in those hobby threads about their views and instead of just leaving it to "cool but it's not for me" they have to get aggressive and convince the tc why they're wrong for making their choices lol

It's also worth mentioning that active hobbies tend to be more of a time-investment while passive ones tend to be more of a money-investment, which can breed resentment from those that can't afford to participate and may come across as more of a status symbol than a passion from those that can.

How is clothing not an active hobby? Unless you think style doesn't exist

Tailoring or altering your clothes would be an active hobby; picking clothes to wear is something everybody does everyday.

There's different skill levels involved. That's like saying cooking isn't a hobby because everyone at least uses the microwave every day

More importantly, i didn't say it's not a hobby, I said it's not an active one, which is the distinction that seems to be why CE tends to be less enthusiastic for such hobbies, as I posted earlier. It's more about owning and affording things than it is doing or making something.

LMAO...what percentage of people in america don't own a microwave? well, regardless, everyone eats, so it's whatever method you use to cook your food

and it is an active one. i monitor stores, their new releases, sale patterns, trends, etc. i read blogs with style scenarios, versatility discussions, quality discussions, etc. and i spend hours a week in front of the mirror trying on different outfits and combos.

im making outfits. in what universe is that not active?

If you have the money to blow, who cares is what I say. I waste plenty of money on gaming stuff. I'm not sure collecting comes to mind when I think of hobbies, but if I asked somebody about their hobbies and they said collecting cards or something I wouldn't feel the need to shit on them or start a semantics war.

you just cannot be serious at this point, idk how anyone can be that dense...

that's like someone experimenting with different spice recipes and you saying "sounds like you just cant decide what tastes you like"

and to clarify, im not spending hours in front of the mirror deciding on outfits for that day...im putting together combinations for future use so i know what my options are in the future
