Ninja still has a narrow edge from his record established in April 2018 (before he left twitch)

Ludwig currently sits at 265k (it'll be higher by the time i'm done with this post).

Ludwig started streaming 31 days ago. I believe he started with 12 hours on the clock for a sub-a-thon with an additional 10 seconds being added to the clock for each additional subscriber. He was expecting to maybe have to endure a 24 hour stream and then call it there, instead he has had to turn his entirely life upside down for a month. For the first few days when he went to sleep (he's been sleeping in a race car bed visible on the stream which still continues) he would wake up with MORE time on the clock than when he went to bed. While Lud sleeps his mods are able to take over the stream remotely and keep the hype going around the clock. After it became clear that this could go on indefinitely he set a cap of 31 days (which is today) for the stream to last, provided the clock never timed out before then. And it's come close, for several days he has been at less than an hour on the clock for the entire day as subs got gifted just in the nick of time.

To close the stream out and to push for the record Ludwig is donating money to charity for every sub today from 12:00 PM PST to 9:00 PM PST (so the charity began about an hour ago) up to a cap of 300,000 subs.

More info about the final day charity:

Those of you who frequent twitch are probably familiar with this story by now because it's been a month long phenomena.

Just a topic to see who else has been following the event or see if anyone else is interested to be around for the final day.

Agreed. He's not one of my "main" watches, but he's definitely adjacent to a lot of the content I regularly enjoy so I was pretty familiar with him going into the sub-a-thon and he absolutely deserves the success.

Only reason I knew about this was from a Critikal video about it like 3 weeks ago. He said he's done some stuff with him and that it couldn't happen to a nicer person, and Critikal seems to ne a pretty good judge of character from what I can tell.

When you subscribe to someone you pay $5/month to be their subscriber. After the month your subscription ends unless you renew it.

If you have Amazon Prime you can link your twitch account to your amazon account and you get 1 free Prime sub available each month. The addition of the Prime subs did a lot for twitch streamers who can get a lot of extra subscribers courtesy of amazon.

Additionally it is now possible to "Gift" a sub to someone else so you pay $5 for 1 month of subscription to someone else.

Ninja lost a significant part of his subscribers because after he set the record he signed a deal with Microsoft to stream exclusively on their new platform "Mixer" which is a platform that didn't last. He's back on twitch now, but the lightning in a bottle he captures in 2018 is gone. His previous record number came from a convergence of several factors not the least of which was the fact that Fortnite was at the peak of it's popularity, and he was the top Fortnite streamer. And the night he sit the number and he had a collab stream with Drake which turned a lot of new eyes his way. That's why until Ludwig's month-long-sub-a-thon no one had even reached HALF the level of concurrent subscribers as Ninja's 2018 mark.
