Johnson & Johnson under scrutiny and use is temporarily suspended. This is panning out similar to AstraZeneca's vaccine. So far all identified cases in the US have been women, though more data may show men may also be slightly at risk like with AstraZeneca's.

The increased risk appears to be very small and the benefits outweigh the risks. Hormonal birth control itself carries risk of clots and millions of women take it daily without problem. Purely speculation by me, but there could be an non-additive interaction between the vaccine and hormonal birth control.

Out of abundance of caution, it may soon be decided not to administer the J&J vaccine to women under certain age thresholds.

Damn, I am supposed to get the J&J vaccine on Saturday. Hopefully Rite Aid will still administer it to me despite this.

Edited the original post to correct it, it's not yet suspended across the US. Only federal agencies are suspending use but they will encourage states to do the same.

The FDA is a right wing organization now? They're the idiots saying the vaccine should be paused because there have been 6 cases of clotting (with 1 fatality?) in 6,800,000 doses. It's blithering numerical illiteracy and the wasted time and increased vaccine skepticism will (and potentially already has) cost lives.

You are 41,250 times more likely to suffer from blood clots because of COVID-19 than you are from the vaccine.

And they're sure this isn't linked to the AZ contamination? Because the time-line kinda corresponds with the contamination.

Otherwise if it's only impacting premenopausal women and are there are no cases for men and post-menopausal women, they should probably just restrict who receives it. But jfc, can't we just have a safe, reliable vaccine that stores at reasonable temperatures? Is that too much to ask for?

You've brought this possible connection up multiple times, but I still haven't seen you provide an actual basis for the theory. What have you seen to suggest it?

I think I'll only look for appointments for Pfizer/Moderna since I'm on hormonal birth control...

I wfh and not in a rush / still pretty much sheltering in place.

Hopefully that won't impact bookings too much..J&J has a shortage anyway as is.

But yeah bf would get it still.

Did AZ blood clotting also only apply to premenopausal women or was that common trait not there?

An unspecified (in the article I read) majority of cases were in women under 60, which I think we can reasonably conflate with being premenopausal. The impression I had is that there's a trend favouring younger women, but not anything conclusively exclusive to them.
