I find it weird on the Cocomelon channel there's a constant 60/40 like to dislike ratio with tens of thousands of people bothering to downvote music videos for literal babies. I think it's PewDiePie fans or something.

Youtube has terrible content on their platform. I posted about this recently, i found a bunch of animal abuse or deaths videos and i even marked a few for animal abuse yet they never were removed. People being hurt... Animals being hurt.. Yet god forbid you show a nipple and get banned for it. Google's moral compass is broken and i wish i could report all the animal abuse to the feds so they can start harassing youtube about illegal content
Don't they hide the proper science backed climate change videos while promoting the looney tunes conspiracy climate changing crap?

Also, while I love that some content got stretched to 10 minutes, giving it a mini documentary feeling, some idiots take a random tidbit sized piece of news like "nintendo restocked the game and watch clock" and drag and spout garbage for 10 minutes straight just to hit the mark for monetisation, so as a whole the service is worse.

Also seeing content creators whoring themselves and begging for subscriptions, notification alerts and patreon donations is pathetic.

If you're going to do that for dislikes, then the same should apply to likes.

I'm sorry that DC fans spammed Godzilla vs Kong with bad reviews.
I'm sorry that YouTube sponsors aren't always popular.

The like/dislike ratio is how viewers know if they're about to get conned or not.

Yeah this is a horrible move. Like someone else pointed out sometimes I search how to fix X if I need help with something, and if I see like 60-70% dislikes I know the uploader is full of shit and I dont need to waste my time.

I can sort of see why they're doing this

If you go onto any news video or race related video that's not right wing, there's always a concerted effort to dislike bomb it and spam the comments with nonsense

Anyone who denies this hasn't looked. It's organized and defeats the point of the like/dislike bar.

And that's not even accounting for bots.

In the "age of disinformation" campaign, I can see why Youtube might want to do something about an age where a news video saying Coronavirus is real gets 99% disliked and vitrol in the comment section from people saying it's a hoax

Probably some legal reason. Cant complain when YouTube is the source of so much readily available free music

That's interesting how that works. There's plenty of music uploaded by random people, full songs, etc. but some of the actual Youtubers or creators are worried about including a song within their video due to copyright.

How does that work?

Then they should just scrap thumbs up too. A "like" implementation is completely pointless if you can't compare the ratio of likes to dislikes.

Because they use skewed metrics to determine the usefulness of features. The main reason people used annotations was to make endcards. After they introduced an actual endcard feature, their usage dropped dramatically. Doesn't matter that they did a bunch of incredibly useful things that endcards can't do. Reduced usage = scrapped feature.

They also got rid of private messages due to low usage. But the reason no one was using them was because it kept getting buried deeper and deeper in the menus with every update. Then they stopped sending users notifications when they received PMs, so anyone who wasn't actively staying on top of the feature forgot it was there.

There's also one more removed feature that has made my life a lot harder. Auto-add on playlists. You could set rules for playlists to automatically add your videos after they're published based on the contents of their title or description. They got rid of it because "most content creators don't use it", despite it being an invaluable tool for gaming channels. Now I have to manually add my videos every day after they go live (don't want to add a scheduled video to a playlist because then it shows up on the list as a private video, which looks terrible).

They also removed community captions, as in captions that uploaders can have their fans do and added on to the video. It was amazing for foreign channels who had fans willing to translate for them. Removing it just makes it harder for them.
