Sad news for Berserk fans.

Looks like the mangaka, Kentaro Miura, passed away from a heart complication.

https://twitter.com/berserk_project/status/1395212918040391680

My condolences to his family, and while I haven't read Berserk, I do know it was a much beloved part of the anime and manga community and this news will undoubtedly break the hearts of millions of fans.

Yeah, typically for manga when the author dies the manga is left as is "to preserve their memory."

There might be some cases where the mangaka left notes and a will specifically stating for someone to continue their work, but I don't know of any such cases happening off the top of my head.

Nog, I did start from the beggining and I do see how things are going in a different order, think I'm on volume 4? Maybe just started 5 before I crashed at 11pm (just woke up).

Gonna get back to it, but so far nothing has really happened much other then a bit more info on Allen the alien, that I didn't see in the show, and there is still a bunch that I have not seen.

Looking forward to finding out what happened to omni-man etc though so glad to be able to continue the story, you so rock!!

Just finished chapter 6:)

Got more info on Invicibles dad which rocks. I totally can see an easy way for them to stop any invasion in the future, actually multiple ways.

First just invicible and his brother can have alot of kids, since the DNA is pure, you'll end up with an army of earthlings that are as powerful as invicible/his dad etc.

Technically with Invicibles brother aging fast, they could quickly have tons of generations in 100 years (if each generation takes 5 years till maturity, you could have millions of decendents in 100 years.

Also the whole cloning thing, can they clone a virtrian? Just make tons of clones of invicible etc and send em off to fight!!

Finally the portal dude to other dimensions could just grab earth defenders from tons of other earths and have em all fight off an invasion then return em.

Anyway really enjoying it. Weird though how some of the story has progressed further, but other parts (like robot becoming a boy etc) are still not caught up yet.

Not sure how many chapters there are but really enjoying reading this. Thanks again.

Still just re-reading the early Detective Conan. I like Tomodachi Game, but it bites off Liar Game pretty hard in a few ways. Besides the main plot (characters get trapped in a series of games where they have to deceive others to win large amounts of money) some of the characters/progression is the same. There's the rival turned token-evil-teammate (Fukunaga/Shinomiya), the charismatic cult leader with alleged supernatural abilities (Harimoto/Kamishiro), the game where players are trapped in one place and have to use money to settle everything and even obtain food, etc.

There are a few major differences though. The main character is a pretty big sociopath, unlike Nao and worse than Akiyama ever was. And while violence is forbidden in games, people find ways around it, and a lot of shit also goes down between games, and there are some major injuries. It raises the stakes a little more.

You need to calm down and take a couple of steps back. The boob tube is for old people. Media these days can entirely be consumed online. I am, for example watching a Red Sox game via a stream right now.
I consume around 10 hours of Youtube media a day, which is split beyond many genres. Broadcast television is almost entirely targeting demographics I am not part of. You might be part of them, but it's whatever. No need to be aggressive in this thread. I haven't owned a television since the DTV transition in like what? 2008? At that point I was starting to watch almost entirely all streamed media anyways. I never looked back.

And most of that streaming is still done on actual televisions, which makes the complaint silly. However, you were wondering if they still made new tv shows, which goes a LOT further than just looking at the viewing format. You're criticizing the industry while propping up the vastly less popular streaming community, which is still just weird.

Broadcast television targets all demos. There are stations for everything. The only way they couldn't target you is if you weren't human, which would raise all sorts of other questions.

Would be nice to see larger metrics. There's a lot more streamers in a genre than there are tv shows in a genre. There's also a lot more genres of streams than tv (every game is basically it's own genre).

As far as I can tell from googling marketing reports. Streaming consumption is basically doubling every year reaching a total of 8 billion minutes watched in quarter 4 of last year. Consersely, traditional television viewership is falling super rapidly for people under 34, fairly quickly for 35-50, and basically unchanged or even increasing in people older than that. For the 12-17 and 18-34 demographics, they spend more time using apps on their smartphone per day than watching traditional tv.

So while judgemenl probably just went based on feel, traditional tv is rapidly declining while streaming is rapidly rising.

It's a bit annoying that streaming statistics tend to be in total time viewed, whereas tv stats tended to be in average per person.

Which is a claim that largely relies on disingenuous arguments. The reality is that the biggest streams don't come close to a lot of network television. When just an average show is pulling in six times the viewership as your record-setting content, that's a pretty massive gulf.

And while people keep saying, "oh, well, streaming is growing!", when you're looking at YTers, VTubers, and the like, they're NEVER going to be as big as major sporting events, film, tv shows, etc, and how could they be? Seriously? Even right now, the biggest YT channels generally aren't "originals" but instead people and companies who were already big that moved into the space. For example, the tenth largest YT channel is the WWE, which itself is a fraction of the size it was 20 years ago when the wrestling business went to shit. Ultimately the real streaming growth is just established brands who succeeded on tv moving into a new format.

YoukaiSlayer posted...

...but I was referring an apples-to-apples. More importantly, the reason that streaming has to rely on alternative metrics is because it can't compete on conventional metrics. The first-time viewers for a tv show make the biggest fucking streamer in the world's metrics look like a joke. Again, the largest viewership simultaneously watching a stream was only that 2.4m or whatever, which is the viewership that Supernatural was still pulling in during later seasons and, even when Supernatural's viewership dipped to the point they finally decided to end the show, it vastly outperformed almost everything on streaming.

Which part of the argument is disingenuous? And again you have maybe hundreds of tv shows competing vs hundreds of thousands of streams. Also where are you pulling this 2.4 million stat from?

"In 2020, the League of Legends World Championships peaked at almost 46 million concurrent viewers."

That's almost 20x what you mentioned and thats what should be compared with traditional sports viewership. That means league has gotten to almost half the viewership of the super bowl. Conversely, the world series had a record low 9.6 million views in 2020 being obliterated in viewership. Of course, the world cup still decimates everything so far at just over 1 billion concurrent viewers worldwide.

Streaming has not yet caught up to traditional tv in viewership but it's largely because of old people. The average 65+ watches more than 6 hours of tv per day. The average 12-17 doesn't even watch 1 hour average per day and the numbers rise through each age group. It's only a matter of time.

And the majority of this data and analysis comes from neilsen, aka the tv ratings people.

And if you really wanna see how traditional tv is dying, it's better to look at youtube with over 1 billion hours watched per day and more time watched in the 18-34 on youtube mobile alone than the same demographic watches tv.

This makes no sense. If anything, total hours viewed is the simplest most direct metric. Average per person has a lot of caveats. Does it include people who don't own tvs? Is it considering multiple people per household using the same tv?

You can look at any metrics you want and see that cable tv is going down and quickly while streaming is going up even more quickly.

I googled that to try to find where you got the claim from, and I can't find an independent, reputable citation. Apparently that's what the organizers claimed, and I'm not sure where they allegedly hosted it although I know it can't be on Twitch because of the Guinness thing.

Which is again trying to reframe the argument, where the original point of contention was the CONTENT provided by television and networks, not merely the consumption platform. Judg has been talking about these tiny ass streamers as being the future while claiming that traditional entertainment -- which pulls in far higher numbers -- is dead, a claim that makes zero sense.

My anime watching this season has been pretty erratic (Work + PoE + STO taking a lot of my time). I think AotS so far for mme is Mashiro no Oto. It is the only Anime I'm technically caught up for. Biggest disappointment is probably Nagatoro, but I only saw the first two episodes. It didn't hook me, probably because it's a comedy, and not a drama (although nothing bad with comedy anime).

She should just be wandering around as long as you don't enter any buildings after noon. I had to go on a journey to find mine.

I'm playing in a small private league in PoE right now and have given away a bunch of stuff because I wasn't going to use it anyways. Made several people's days today. Getting stuff for free saves you so much time grinding for stuff that you may or may not get just to play the game a certain way. This started because someone gave me the item I needed for my build that I wasn't guaranteed to get.

I have no idea if you can make a parallel in AC.

in AC you're handed free stuff constantly for just existing, in poe you can't even play your build for realsies without dozens upon dozens of hours of grinding sometimes

like those goddamn golem jewels. LITERALLY vital to golem builds. cost hundreds upon hundreds of chaos week one and only go up from there. and you need two of each, cuz you fuse three into one other. golems suck ass without them so you generally just have to do specter or srs or something and respec into golems when you have money

(i haven't played since the garden league but i can't imagine its much better now)

Harvest? You could farm The Primordial in that league, but yes I know what you're talking about. Golem Gems are hard to come by, and Carrion Golems were very popular in that league.

Retro Crush got all three of the NG Knight Lamune series. Considering their list of acquisitions, I am starting to wonder if they are staffed largely by former fansubbers. Not a bad thing if true.

Started on s2 of Beastars instead of Jaku Chara. Probably do that one next. I like Legosi's pace. Nice and relaxed. Still a weird furry bait setting, but enjoyable nonetheless.
