have they revamped how collections work in the last couple years? Core set might be a time to do that

i found the cost of buying cards and the time investment necessary to get cards through the free to play model to both be grossly expensive to me so iv been ignoring this game since rastakans rumble. i only open the game to push towards my quest of completing all 27 shrines, and even that's been a long time.

i heard their was some new system sometime within the last year but i saw a bunch of drama on reddit about how it was actually worse to gain cards through playing than before if you did the math, with arguing back on forth bickering about how it was actually a bit better. it would need drastic change to get me interested in playing again

The new rewards system is unquestionably better except for the people who spend 5 hours a day grinding out max gold from the old system. They did have to revamp some of the numbers from the initial release but it's in a pretty good spot right now. If you're starting at 0 gold I think you could get about 8K to 10K by the time the next expansion drops from the new reward system.

Not sure how much you've been following the Core Set but they're basically giving everyone 235 cards (mix of new, wild, and classic cards) for free. The free core set will rotate each year so they'll swap about 30 cards in/out to mix up the standard format (on top of the expansions).

The new expansion drops on the 30th so it might be a good time to hop back in if you're interested but if you ultimately left because of the F2P experience then I don't know if it's really improved enough to justify coming back.

I don't know the exact gold total I got under the last expansion but I'd guess I'm about 1,500 up under the new system now? Having the 2,000 gold mini-sets attached to every expansion ends up making that look less impressive, though, as while I'm getting more gold each set the amount I'm spending has gone up more than what I'm getting has.

Edit: Actually I'm probably about even on gold all things considered. Forgot I spent 500 on a random card back because I'm dumb and that's a great way to spend my gold seeing as I just use the random card back feature anyway.

I wish those golden cards could still be dusted, even if you got no actual dust for them and they just disappeared, or at least make the gold cards stack in the collection so they're behind/in front of the regular cards. As someone who doesn't use golden cards at all I always disliked wading through the golden cards from the basic set that I couldn't dust, made creating decks a pain in the ass when the card list was about 25% longer than it needed to be. Thought with basic rotating in favor of the core set this would most likely be an annoyance of the past, but I guess not.

Diamond cards look pretty cool, though the unlock requirements are such that I'm not ever seeing either of those two. Even then, probably wouldn't use them for the same reason I don't use golden cards. But still, unlike the golden cards I actually like the looks of these ones.

Oh wow, missed this at first. I imagine there's no other 2,500xp quest to rotate into, but I still like this. There's been weeks where I've had to play a bunch of ranked on Sunday in order to not lose my quest even though I didn't want to.

Man, Libroom paladin is indeed better than pure paladin, but it is stressful; I often end up roping due to a combination of animations and thinking through my turns. Still feel like I should probably try to get to diamond 5 now before the un-nerfs come (at which point lol it's going to be chaos).

All of the cards have been revealed. Haven't looked through all of them yet but kinda excited to try hero power mage with the new epic card:

I'm kinda curious if spell power affects this but that would be too broken if it did I think.

Haven't watched the stream, but I saw a few of them on reddit and I must say I like the idea of Celestial Alignment. I fully expect to end up hating the card because it forces some sort of 'Malygos Is Gone But Watch Druid Still Do Some Bullshit' combo that crushes the decks I enjoy playing, but I still like the idea of it.

The Warlock mill spell is amazing and I fully expect to hate it and love it in equal amounts.

Rogue looks really strong this set, but when is that ever not the case.

On the topic of Rogue their level-up card is 2 mana deal 2/4/6 damage. So a rogue at 10 mana will be able to hit you in the face for 12 for 4 mana.

I am actively surprised that they just went ahead and added a new eviscerate like that.

Granted I don't think the 10 mana version is all that big of a deal (rogue decks are usually designed to win or die long before 10 mana). But so much for looking forward to a standard without Eviscerate.

It's not even like Rogue got a weak core set either and needed forged in the barrens to fill in missing cards or something. Their core set includes Prep, Backstab, Shadowstep, Deadly Poison, Sinister Strike, and some solid baseline minions and weapons.

Elemental mage is sort of a meme right now but the next expansion is offering some decent support for elemental shaman.

I don't think there's any dragon focused deck right now except maybe Dragon Hunter but there are better Hunter decks I think. The core set is giving a lot of big dragons but I'm not sure you could really build a deck around them.

There are some elemental mage variants, or at least elementals being included commonly with spell damage mage.

Whether the deck is "good" is open for interpretation. When it draws cards in the correct order you can beat anything and when it doesn't games often feel hopeless.

I know I spent the entirety of February throwing games at the Oh My Yogg achievement, but my mmr is seriously confused right now. My last six games over the previous 45 minutes or so.

Stealth/Aggro Rogue
Guy who was playing River Crocolisk and Boulderfist Ogre
Secret Mage

Murloc Shaman, but literally just things like Murloc Raider

At least decide if I'm trash and need to be playing people who only have basic cards, or if I'm not trash and need a parade of tier one decks. Or better yet, somewhere in the middle where I encounter interesting decks.

The worst part is I feel bad beating the guys with only basic cards and I kind of want to just concede and give them a win... but I also need five ranked wins so misery for them it is I guess.

I'm glad to see they are keeping up with Arena rotations, and of course the core set is going to be a huge change. Now if they could just remove Arbor Up, Grand Finale, and Hysteria from the format that would be fantastic.

In Arena, both Arbor Up and Grand Finale basically just end the game when they are played. They both have played winrates over 70%. Right now the only 2 cards in all of Arena that have a higher played winrate are the 'I am playing this card specifically because it wins the game this turn' duo of Pyroblast and Bloodlust. The biggest problem, which is unfortunately quite common in Arena these days, is that they are in way too many decks. Grand Finale is in nearly 19% of Mage decks and Arbor Up is in nearly 25% of Druid decks. Getting that 1/4 chance at Arbor Up is basically the difference between a 3 win Druid and a 7+ win Druid. Grand Finale, if it isn't incredibly late in a draft with no elementals, is a near instant-pick over every single legendary in the game. Hysteria is just an RNG fiesta that I have seen be a 3-mana destroy 14 mana worth of your opponent's board. Mind control is annoying and can win the game on the spot, but it's also a 10 mana card. Hysteria can let you go from an empty board against an opponent with board control to removing your opponent's board and also developing a 7 drop.

I just had a very strange finish to a Duels run. I was playing discard warlock and I was at 11-1. My final boss with a token demon hunter (with the summon two 1/1 rush HP). He didn't have Recycling (thank God) but he did have Cannibalize, so it's not a great match up if you don't stay ahead on board. We're maybe 5-6 turns in and he's managed to stabilize on board, but I was holding into a couple of warlock AOE cards to prevent him from running away with it.

So I draw a card. It's a deck of wonders spell.

It casts a spell that draws another card. It's another deck of wonders spell.

This one casts RENOUNCE DARKNESS, and so I become a paladin and the AOE cards I was saving become random paladin crap.

Concede.

Next opponent is also Demon Hunter.

This one also had Cannibalize. (and also, thankfully, does not have Recycling)

MY VERY FIRST DRAW ON MY FIRST TURN? DECK OF WONDERS SPELL.

AND WHAT DOES IT CAST? RENOUNCE DARKNESS.

I was absolutely malding, but at least I wasn't staring 1-2 turn lethal in the face so I knew I would just have to try to make the best of it. And I turned into a mage so at least I had a ping to more easily clean up his 1 mana minions.

So I play it out, and I'm able to play Greedy Pickaxe on 4 which helps me ramp into Alexstrazsa on my 9 gold turn (turn 7), and then play Antonidas + cheap spells to set up a two turn lethal. So I absolutely cheesed it out with a mage combo I had no business having access to, but it was such a weird series of events to happen twice in a row. I was rewarded with +510 gold from the 12 win rewards (every bag was gold) for a profit of 360 if you take away the entry price.

I assume so, because I have 18 wins with Demon Hunter now and I definitely haven't won 18 ranked games with it.

I just bought Sylvanas, because there's nothing like complaining about gold costs going up because of the mini-sets and then spending 1500 gold on cosmetics.

Played Oh My Yogg to mess with the turn of a Res Priest who was at 1 health but there were various things they could have done to win. They played a 1 mana spell which turned into Dark Posession, dealt 2 damage to their own face.

Anyway, messed around with classic mode a bit. I wanted to play some of the decks I didn't have cards for in classic mode, like control warrior and Handlock. Some parts of the mode I expected, like running out of cards in hand. But what I ddin't think about is how the burst damage is like...basically wild level burst damage. 4 mana Leeroy, 1 mana Cold Blood, Arcane Golem with charge, 2/1 Leper Gnome. But the healing is...Earthen Ring Farseer. Just Earthen Ring Farseer. I think I need to change my mentality when playing this mode, cause I keep thinking "this is the low power mode" and it's...not. Lost a game cause I, at 29 health, used Faceless Manipulator on a 10/10 Edwin and Slam Executed it, but what I actually needed to do was slam/execute the Edwin, Shield Block, and Armour Up to be at 36 life, cause the Rogue bursted me for 30 next turn.

Wild: we get 30 un-nerfs. Stuff I've messed around with:

Undertaker Hunter with 2 mana Starving Buzzard and 2/1 Leper Gnome: Starving Buzzard is disgusting, especially now that there's Wolpertinger and Alley Cat to potentially draw 4 on turn 4 while developing 6/5 worth of stats. Undertaker...I mean, it's good, but IDK if it justifies running a big deathrattle package. This is the experiment that performed the best, but it's a bit of a boring deck.

Even Paladin seems like it might be legit. I didn't end up playing it myself because I only have one call to arms and didn't reeealy want to craft an epic just in case it turns out to be unplayably bad; I'll wait for a meta report to confirm first. BUT I did lose to it a few times.

Galakrond Shaman...TBH I couldn't make it work, like at all. I did beat a secret mage with it when I curved perfectly into Galakrond on 7, but I think I was like 1-4 with the deck overall. Might just have a bad build, though, other people reported doing alright with (of all things) Odd Galakrond Shaman, so maybe I'm playing the wrong cards.

Bonemare: I tried it in a more value oriented Odd Paladin with Librams. Nope, pretty sure this card is just trash in wild. Just...not on the same level as...well pretty much the only 7 mana cards that see play in wild are board clears, hero cards, or cheat gallons of mana (Psychic Scream, Soul Mirror, Lord Godfrey, Luna's Pocket Galaxy, Lesser Diamond Spellstone, Dr Boom Mad Genius, Malfurion the Pestilent). Bonemare is...just a slightly above curve minion; nothing compared to cards like that. Although...maybe it has a little potential with Shudderwock? Haven't tried that combo yet.

It's literally the only XP achievement I didn't get, not including the handful I just didn't have the cards for, and I'm still salty about it because I think I spent over 50 hours in February alone trying to get it.

Hell, I finished the first of the three achievements to summon copies of Greybough even though I don't have the card.

I've reinstalled after however long its been after hearing there's a classic mode. Had enough dust to recraft all the old rotated out stuff that I disenchanted to complete my classic collection, very excited to get into it and not worry about the dozen other things that main menu threw at me when logging in.
