I know right? They could be borrowing money for something else sure. Jusr a big coincidence that GMR sharply drops right when they borrow.

I figured they are just trying to crush WSB. and they have the money to do it (and if not, they can just borrow more). Reddit isn't going to outmuscle these guys on their own

Something like shorting shouldn't be legal. There is no reason to let someone bet against companies(which makes it hard to get loans and shit). It's stock market should be about making profit off of companies rising.

Yea but my point is it may spike again after it stabilizes.
Why?
Because it went to $40, stabilized, went to $100, stabilized.

Then it spiked. Bo doubt they tried their best to stop that spike right?

They're shorting ETFs containing GME and using synthetic longs to hide it

It's not very bright though. They can borrow all that money but they are still on the hook for it. Even if they can crush WSB it mostly means nothing to the WSB crowd. If WSB loses money, big deal, it was money they never had if they didn't cash out, they are only out their initial investment. Citadel is out far more. This is clearly a case of sunk cost fallacy and ego.

Why should capital be wasted on failing companies? Shouldn't that capital go to companies with much better long-term prospects?

Why don't we appoint you as arbiter of what you can invest in since you are so enlightened.

I'm not making those choices the people shorting "bad" companies are. And that is a high risk choice to make already.

What gives them the right to be the arbiters of what is a good investment?

What? So should nobody be allowed to buy shares of a company either?

They're making their own choices with their own money. Betting against a company they perceive as overvalued is their own decision like its WSB's choice to invest based on a hivemind view of a stock.

Why are you talking about buying shares? You want them to steer capital away from failing companies meaning telling other people not to buy shares.

shorting isn't inherently bad but the stock market is supposed to be a 'wisdom of the crowds' measure of company market viability but it's not 1 vote per person it's 1 vote per dollar so Wall Street alone gets to decide who is profitable and who isn't

And yet GME still holding above $200 atm.
People are whining that money is being spent on GME because they claim they know the company is worthless. Ironic.

What that
Beta is how it correlates to the stock market as a whole

positive beta - stock market goes up = stock typically goes up too
negative beta - stock market goes up = stock typically goes down
