I did two rewatches today. One changed my mind about a movie in a very positive way. The other...well lets just say fond childhood memories of a movie dont make it good. The memories were rad though!

So now 4 movies left I havent seen, and I think Ill throw in a few rewatches. The middle of the pack is pretty competitive.

I just did a project for my film class about Native American stereotypes in film. I focused on their portrayals in popular movies starring John Wayne. Had to do a research outline and a multimedia presentation of some sort. I decided to do a Ted Talk with my son's Woody action figure about stereotypes. Here's hoping I get a good grade!

I'm kind of wondering about the effectiveness of this format of assigning 30 movies for 3 months, no interaction, then giant dumps of rankings and writeups at the end.

I only started joining in with the MCU rankings which i was very into and excited about, but I'm not sure the outcome matched my expectations. I was expecting a lot of discussion of opinions, but it was no discussion for the watch period, then when it was compiled, 30 write ups of a movie would be posted each day. There would be *some* discussion about each movie, but it was usually only about a couple points about the movie, and it seemed very clear to me that most people weren't actually reading most write ups. And then the next day would come and it would be another giant dump as we move on to the next movie.

It seems like a lot of effort of watching all these movies and writing about them for not that much actual interaction? It seemed like most hype was just about seeing what placed where, not really about what people were actually saying in their reviews.

Now here we are and it seems like the list of movies was assigned 3 months ago, and now Stifled is checking in to make sure we did our pandemic homework... we all forgot about it. Which kinda sucks because Stifled probably put a decent amount of work into coming up with this list and was excited about it, but here it is.

I wonder if this would be more engaging if during the watch period we actually just informally gave our thoughts as we watch these movies and discuss them along the way? It "gives away" what the comments are going to be in the final rankings and might making the rankings more expected, but maybe this would just make a more fun experience and keep people engaged for the watch period and participating.

How has this gone with prior versions of this project? Was the MCU an outlier just because everyone has already seen those movies or has it been more successful in the past too?

Participation was waning a bit in the last few projects before the MCU. So this went from a Gauntlet Crew project to being a Board 8 project as a whole to boost participation. The MCU project had a big turnout, but I suspect subject matter had a lot to do with it. Because here we are lol.

I like the current format for the ranking reveal, but I agree with you that more interaction beforehand could be fun.

Id be willing to give a month extension if everyone that was in at first would give it a go.

Its not for a lack of interest but I definitely dont have the time. Im lucky to watch more than one movie a week sometimes.

I'm 6/30 now, I won't quite make it in time for the current deadline but I'll certainly be complete it with an extension.

I'm enjoying the experience a lot, even the ones I thought sucked. I thought one firmly established the bar that any western should meet and I genuinely really liked another one.

Nah wait ixnay on the last statement, I'm actually going on vacation at the end of the month and will have to use that time to prepare and get ready. If other people really need a longer extension I will definitely do but if it's within the next few weeks I just can't.

Doing some thinking, we dont have many completely confirmed participants so far. And honestly, this month has sucked for me. My grandfather had multiple strokes a few weeks ago and my focus has been on him. Hes ok now and going home on Friday, thankfully. But also July is gonna be super busy for me. So in the hope of getting more participants and to help myself out

The deadline is extended to August 1st.

This will be the last extension, however. So please work hard, everyone.
