Nice man. Yeah my diet sucked in the opposite direction, really struggling to keep up eating enough. I allegedly was trying to gain weight this week but I'm down to 181.6 this morning from a high of like 188.0 last week. Granted, you know, water weight fluctuates and all of that but still it's not great. And this is the lowest I've weighed for about a month. Ideally I'd like my "set point" to be around 185.0 and it's obviously not.

8 min mile yesterday 7.5 on treadmill
2 miles in 18:30 today on treadmill (6.5 pace i sped up to 7.0 because I accidentally paused the machine at like 1.25 miles just kept running in place as I waited for it to restart and then upped it until i caught back up to the 9:15 pace of 6.5)

gonna do bench and arms tonight. Did my 8 min abs already this morning. Feeling pretty good today was really feeling myself on the run was just totally in the zone

I think at my most obsessive I was weighing myself like 3 times a day and just going with my highs/lows for the week. People always say not to do that because it's demoralizing, but I preferred a more accurate picture. I'd just graph it and make sure I was headed in the direction that I wanted.

I don't stress over it if I miss a day or two but I try to weigh myself every day. I do literally graph it in excel for the same reason lol. It gives a good picture in the long run.

Today I gotta deadlift 292.5

So question for general fitness/health.

Is it better when doing cardio to do longer stretches at a lower speed, or should you go faster?

Typically I just kinda go until I hit 2 miles. Sometimes if I wanna do some jogging in there I can do it faster, other times I kinda just wanna take my time and walk.

If I were instead just to do 50 minutes of walking at let's say 3.3 MPH, is that better than 35 minutes where I fluctuate between 3-5MPH?

full running > interval training > walking longer

if you only care about fat burn and look, Hiit (which is what youre describing except cut the time in half, maybe do 15 minutes alternating between 3 mph walk and sprints) is the way to go. Its effective and fast. However if you believe in slow and steady wind the race, full running is much better. Hiit guys seem to be completely lacking in cardio imo. Theres a mental toughness in a nonstop run after a certain point its just you vs your mind. Being able to push through that is where success lies. I have found in my experience the constant breaks make it much easier mentally to handle which is good for beginners but unless you know what Im talking about with the extra oomph running requires.

on that note ran 25 mins outside today, was a pretty nice day turns out I didnt have to go away

For bigger dudes you also run into the issue of high impact on your knees. If you're alternating between walking quickly/slowly you're fine. If you're busting out into a jog then you might start doing some damage. Like it won't definitely screw up your knees but it's more of a risk. Also, if your form is bad it ups the risk too. Injuries will definitely deter you from exercising.

I was running a hypertrophy program that I bought into, but I saw that I was losing size and quit after 2 months. Just finished a (reduced) chest/arm session this morning following my old program. I feel incredibly sore.

Front squats are super difficult for me to get down, it's like the bar never feels comfortable. It feels like it's in danger of falling at any second, to the point I don't even feel it in my legs before I can't do any more
@Pow_Pow_Punishment is this normal? Any tips?

Been going to the gym for 7 months now

It's hard as fuck getting in all the calories in as a skinny guy. Like it's not that hard to lift weights and put on strength but it's hard and time consuming to wolf down all the calories, needed to grow.

Also did not feel like lifting today. Allergies suck. I did it anyway though.

Week in review:
Went from an after Easter dinner weigh in of the heaviest of my life to down 9 lbs. Stuck to my diet completely until last night when I had social obligations for a fancy dinner. Was at 10lbs down before that. Either way, great momentum here.

Workout went okay. Did one set of dumbell bench with 90s then lacked the strength for take off after that. I think as I lose weight, I'm going to intentionally just do a reverse pyramid on those. I very much doubt that I'll gain any strength. All my other lifts were very standard performance.

Most people think they need to eat massive foods to grow, you really dont. Just get enough protein (generally no more than 1g per lb of lean body weight is needed) and eat in a moderate surplus and youll put on some mass without getting fat,

Morning workout was a success. I worked on the upper body with incline bench pressing, curls, shoulder presses, etc. I also hit the abdomen a bit. About to down beef patties and cheddar.

Nice! I just did some light biking today. Tomorrow I'm gonna get back into the regular swing of things with my ohp day

Yeah I'd be lying if I said the impending opening of civilization didn't influence my decision to start cutting

Lift weights 2-3 days a week, dont focus so much on lifting heavy, but focus more so on proper form and being in control of the weight. If you want to, alternate between abdomen and cardio every other day you workout. I am of the view that abs are more so made in the kitchen than they are in the gym, and Im not really keen on cardio unless I feel I absolutely fell off the wagon with binge cheat eating that week.

Chest and Biceps one day, Shoulders and Legs another, and Back and Triceps another.

Avoid ultra-processed foods, so by default avoid added sugars, refined carbohydrates, and vegetable oils as much as possible. Eat real food sources whether it be meats, fruits, or vegetables. Personally speaking for myself, Im very keto/paleo orientated when it comes to my eating habits and I try to lowball my carbohydrates under 50 grams on non-training days and under 75 grams on training days. I try to keep my sugar content under 20 grams regardless if I trained or rested that day. I try to avoid vegetable oils as much as I can, but thats not to say I dont eat a cheat meal now and then for a birthday or holiday.

That sounds like a good plan, thank you! I've been doing what I can to cut back on sugar, it's my weak spot. >_> And it's in so much stuff. But there's a lot of healthy foods I do like, so I've been trying to focus more on those.

Machines are long term generally not a great idea. They definitely have uses, but because it puts you on such a fixed path you don't use other muscles that you'd use to stabilize yourself and stuff. Strong stabilizing muscles help tremendously in not hurting yourself and you'll look better too. Also, engaging more muscles generally burns more calories.

Just get some weights and try to find some sort of reputable routine. If you're after weight loss, then adjusting your diet is the most important part. Weights definitely help though and you'll look better with your shirt off for it.

I found an app for dumbbell training that should work. It has three different workout days split out. Chest/triceps, back/biceps, and legs/shoulders. I'll just take it slow with some light weights so I don't hurt myself. lol
