I think you'll see more online options from "normal" universities post-covid, now that they've had to adapt to online modalities and pedagogies out of necessity. That said, I will adamantly maintain that online will never compare to the authentic in-person experience.

I tried online courses for one semester and they fucking sucked. This was back in 2011 so maybe its better now. But the layout of the website was such a clusterfuck I ended up failing one class because I never even saw one of the big assignments because it wasnt on the main page or ever even mentioned in the professors posts.

Retook the class in person the next semester and passed

In-person is better but in many cases it's not really worth the extra cost that it (should) have.

I had some great college classes that would have not been the same if they were online, but were those classes really worth what they cost? Eh.

I learn so much better in the comfort of my own home with a screen shoved in my face, at my own pace and time of day.

I struggle to retain anything in-person. There's so much fluff to fill the time we all agreed to stay, gotta go at a pace that's one size fits none. All my brain power goes into making sure my fashion on point, not sounding like a fool when called on, and making sure my damn stomach doesn't pick a bad time to roar.

I know there's some bad and lazily thrown together online courses out there, but people that trash online and insist in-person is the end all be all either got the discipline of a 5 year old or have no satisfying social outlet aside from class.
