Timeline:

7/14/2020 - I went to vote in San Antonio, TX in the primaries. I went in to vote, came out, got in my car, and left.
7/26/2020 - I just happened to be looking at the video logs in my car and saw this happen. I was mad. They didn't say anything at all to me. I have a ceramic coating on the car, but it went through the coating and damaged the paint on the rear passenger's side door. I found Mauro Garza's campaign page on Facebook and called them. Mauro Garza actually picked up. He sounded like he didn't believe what I was telling him, but I sent him the video. He then apologized and said he would take care of it.

We were texting back and forth about it. I went to get an estimate. It was just south of $1600 for the repainting and putting the ceramic coating back on the door panel. He didn't have any business insurance, so he was gonna have to pay for it out of pocket. He refused to do that. He said he would pay my deductible if I went through my insurance company. I didn't want to file a claim, but he was refusing to pay for it out of his campaign or out of his own pocket. I agreed to file a claim. I sent him my address so he could send me a check. He was actually going to have one of his volunteers write the check for my deductible. I thought this was weird, but I was going to take the money because they tried to sweep it under the rug.

Then he wanted me to sign a legal document holding them harmless for any further issues in this regard. I refused to do that because that's stupid. They're literally the only responsible party and I have video evidence of the incident. I just wanted him to pay what he owes so I could be done with him. He refused to have any money sent to me because I wouldn't sign whatever document he wanted me to sign.

So, I filed a claim with my insurance and sent them the video and the text message conversation. State Farm's legal team agreed that I shouldn't be signing anything from him to get the money. So they started the claims process and got my car fixed.

After the repairs were done, State Farm started going after Mauro Garza for the money. He started ignoring their calls. State Farm sent it to collections about 5 months ago or so. The collections company had been hounding him for months and he finally paid. So now I've got my deductible back and my car is all fixed up.

I never want to deal with this guy again. He ran for congressional district 20 (most of west San Antonio) and lost. He ran in 2018 in a different district and lost. If he runs again in 2022, I'm probably going to go to the news about this incident. I don't want him to be an elected official at all.

This kinda feels like - from the wider perspective - one of those small things that people won't give two fucks about in a politician, unless they already don't like him and just want more things to complain about with him.

To be clear, it's a fucking shitty situation, just saying I doubt the wider public will care as much as you think they will.

That's literally all of partisan politics

the dollar value is relatively small (well, for car damage, 1600 is a lot, but i assume Tesla's are more expensive to fix), but it is big just due to the sheer dishonesty. This person in a position of leadership? Not good. Zero integrity, acting like a shithead child who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar but continues to deny it.

One time I accidentally backed into a guy that owns a chain of chicken farms and restaurants. He was really nice and offered to buy me dinner at his restaurant. He used the accident as a way to promote himself.

You do see the occasional person who'll actually pay attention to bullshit even from the (usually) guy on their side, but it's rare.
