Surprised there is actually a PS5 version and not just a backwards compatible ps4 version

81 now after 23 reviews. I've been curious about this, I liked The Messenger a lot so hopefully it plays kinda like that, never played the NES Ninja Gaidens though.

Mekadragon is a major jump up in difficulty, I've probably died ten times on it now

this game is ok

I'm at the second to last chapter and some of the platforming is kind of dumb. It's gone from a fast paced ninja game to like a pattern recognition game >_>

I thought I would enjoy it more with new abilities but I honestly think its best at the start when its just platforming and slashing

Finally finished it. Last few areas have too much off the screen nonsense it was kind of a slog. I enjoyed the game overall but I still feel like the first half was vastly superior.

Also had no interest in going back to earlier areas with new upgrades to 100% them knowing the only reward is more health or spirit, compared to something like axiom verge where I felt incentivized because maybe there's a new weapon or skill

Edit - and last area kind of sucked because it was entirely about jumping off enemy heads which I had been doing for hours, now all of a sudden its necessary 5 chapters after I've been doing it. The "learn this ability and then we are basing a level off it" was done to death, with no real payoff of having to put it all together. Even the last chapter felt like a tutorial for something that never paid off
No one probably cares but its ok

This game really has more in common with the action-platformers that Natsume made like Shatterhand and Shadow of the Ninja than it does with Ninja Gaiden

Finished this last night, I enjoyed it quite a bit but it's less impressive and less ambitious than The Messenger. If you don't like Metroidvania stuff maybe it's better I guess. Still I had fun though it was pretty difficult for me, I have no experience with the classic games in this genre so can't compare it to Ninja Gaiden etc. The bosses were great.

Ha, I actually enjoyed the last few levels much more than the start. Once you get all your powers I feel there's much more freedom and it's more fun to move around, there's more ways for you to progress from screen to screen. I agree that massive screen near the end with all the head bopping was tedious but aside from that the last couple chapters are much more fast paced, and the various gimmicky levels they throw at you in the back half all work well for me and don't wear out their welcome. I'm sure I missed a lot but I like how many secret little locations were tucked away too (The dancing robots, the hidden vents where your robopal moves around from, the Mario warp zone reference, good stuff!). The narrative took itself a little too seriously (especially compared to The Messenger) but it was fine, and the music was good which tbf seems to be a prerequisite for all indies these days.
