well i remember having Virtua Fighter 2 for Sega Saturn as a kid and i enjoyed it a lot.

It isn't a bad franchise. It just got swept under by the likes of Tekken.

A perfect fighting game. Tons of depth stemming from a very elegant and intuitive fighting system. Players can really make a character their own in how they play it, and it's a great test of adaptability and out thinking the other player. The depth and rapid decision making make it a very exciting game. Also the variety of fighting styles and fluid animations simply make it visually impressive.

I can't imagine anybody with a decent amount of skill agreeing with this statement. Unless you think boring means a lack of cut scene triggering super moves, absurd sound effects, and flashing lights all over the screen.

I meant in the sense that it doesn't stand out among other fighters. People will find characters from other series more interesting. MK has it's gore, Street Fighter is more iconic, Tekken is a bit more flashy with more recognizable fighters to most people.

The games are well made, but great gameplay only sells so many copies. Nice try with that little insult though. I'm sure the two people that still inhabit the VF5 will give you a pat on the back.

Virtua Fighter is a great franchise. It's just very technical and not forgiving to novice players or button mashers.

VF is the metric by which I judge other 3d fighting games.

Most casuals won't know and just see it as a Tekken knock off, but for hardcore crowd the learning curve is pretty damn high for the game. I love the hell out of it and I'm excited for the sixth game that got announced (or teaser). It's a pretty damn solid game, but my only criticism is the same as DOA where sometimes the hit impacts don't feel that strong or just look wonky.

Virtua fighter is a cool game but i always found the moves to be too complex to build combos and remember. I prefer playing street fighter

This however you're correct, Virtua Fighter doesn't really have anything to stand out marketing wise. DoA has boobs, but it won't have the staying power as other popular fighters is because the whole game is basically a giant 50/50 gameplay wise and it already has the reputation as a pervy game. Virtua Fighter needs to do something big to stand out or it will continue to be niche.

This. It's a similar case with Dead or Alive, but Dead or Alive isn't as good as Virtua Fighter, but it seems like the Dead or Alive devs didn't set out to make a finely balanced competitive tourney fighter since with the series they prioritize entertainment and spectacle over balance tweaking, which is why those games focus on waifus, tits and ass and over the top stages and ring outs.

Not sure why you atted me. He says VF doesn't standout but only points to superficial things that make other fighters stand out. Personally VF's exceptional gameplay is what sets it apart. I have no problems if that makes it niche. I rather play a great game designed for those hardcore fans who appreciate it with a small population than a more popular game that caters to onlookers and casuals.

I suppose he stood up for himself though, so good for him.
