Current Events > I took a deep dive into Evangelion games and some of them are fucking WEIRD!

I guess to start with the more "normal" ones, there's ones from the Saturn called Evangelion 1st Impression and 2nd Impression that are like turn based strategy games where you control EVAs on a battleground and then effects clips from the anime play depending on your actions (stuff like buildings blowing up, or Shinji getting knocked down, etc) but they also have new FMVs that were animated just for the game and had a new character named Mayumi and is a supposed waifu interest for Shinji in the story >_>


Apparently she ends up having an angel core inside her and somehow Shinji saves her. Then she leaves on a train at the end and Shinji is sad >_>

Then there's the N64 games where you basically just play through the plot of the show in a series of fights and minigames (kind of like DBZ: Kakarot in a way), but there's also a quasi-sequel for the PS2 called Evangelion 2 where it goes deeper into the show and has a ton of alternate reality scenarios.

The N64 game has really good graphics but it's only like 90 minutes long which sucks

Finally, there's an Evangelion smash bros game where you control as all the EVAs and Angels in a 4-player brawl with items and specials >_>

Now to start getting into the weird stuff. There's a tamagachi-esque game on the Wonder Swan where you control Kaji and try to grow and nuture an Angel embryo into an adult >_> It can grow to be any of the Angels on the show or even turn into Pen Pen. You can also have it fight other EVAs or pit it against your friend's angel if they have a copy of the game


Then there's a visual novel story on a Saturn called Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel that takes place halfway through the series, where a new chick named Mana appears in the story and becomes Shinji's love interest.

The entire game is just drawn still images with voices and sound effects. But you make choices throughout the game and it determines whether you end up with Mana, Asuka, or alone >_> Mana ends up being a spy and a pilot for some rival EVA organization but comes around through the power of love or some bullshit. And for some reason, in Mana's ending, they literally show her naked uncensored lol



Also at one point they show Unit 00 fishing, which is pretty great >_>

And then on the Dreamcast there's the Rei Ayanami Raising Project >_> You (the player) are hired by NERV and end up with the task of raising Rei while coordinating her schedule and do activites.

There's a crap ton of endings including stuff like you (the player) marrying Rei, Rei becoming a cop, Rei going ganguro, Rei becomes a cosplayer, among many, many, other endings <_< Did I mention that this game is weird as fuck







Also there's a spinoff tamagachi game from this where you raise Rei in an LCL tank and have to feed her and shit >__>

After that, there's a side-quel called Shinji Raising project where you control Misato and have raise Shinji in the same way to make him a better man. It takes place during that alternate reality in episode 26, where Rei has a personality, and Yui is alive >_>
Shinji can end up becoming involved with any of the EVA girls, Misato herself, or Kaworu.

There's stuff like Evangelion Teaches Typing where Maya and Misato help you learn to type while your typing skills help Unit 01 win battle against angels.

And there's a collection of games like solitaire, mahjong, hearts, hanafuda, etc. but slathered with EVA shit. Apparently these were re-released later but with a pervy strip version of these games lol >_>

There's like 4 versions of that weird Rei grooming game >_> Dreamcast, Windows, PS2, and DS. The game was apparently crazy successful when it came out in Japan.
The DS and PS2 versions also let you raise Asuka too as a secret unlockable mode

I think it's mentioned in the Crunchyroll video, but City Shrouded in Shadow is a spiritual successor to the Disaster Report games featuring Godzilla, Ultraman, Evangelion, and other franchises. You play as a civilian trying to escape the chaos while rescuing as many people as possible. Here are the Evangelion scenes.

This is the furthest thing from official, but the screenshot let's play of Princess Maker 2 made up an entirely new narrative to make up for the game's lacking one. One such addition was the replacement of the faceless, voiceless player avatar who acts as the eponymous Princess's dad with Gendo Ikari. This goes about as well as you'd expect, and eventually the Princess gets hereself killed in combat, which leads into this wonderful bit.
