like everyone seemed to complain about these games at the time and BW2 are remembered as classics, but BW was probably the most Id been excited playing a Pokmon game since Gold/Silver when I was 11 lol

Between Black and White? Theyre gonna be mostly the same except for a few available Pokmon and the layout of the last city.

Black has a gothic Lolita Pokmon and a condor/vulture kinda thing. The last city is futuristic.

White has a psychic blob and an eagle. The last city is old and traditional.

Theres also a grass-type exclusive in each version but you can get both in either game thanks to an in-game trade.

B/W and B2/W2 were the last time I felt satisfied by a main series Pokmon game.

To think it was followed by X/Y. Oh dear.

Some may stomp their feet over not getting their old favorites or having to contend with odd approximations but I think more of the games should have done that and it should have been sooner.

X and y were fine. So were sun and moon, only issue with ultra was they were essentially the same game for the first 3 islands then it was good again. Ultra moon and Black 2 remain to this day my favorite pokemon games, and I say this as a gen 1 initiate.

I also loved that there were no returning pokemon until post game. I exclusively use new pokemon on my first playthrough in a new region, so I actually got excited when I got to a new route or cave and there were new pokemon to catch. It was probably even better personally because the first time I had ever completed the national dex (including legitimate events) was in Heart Gold. After finally mastering everything, I had a fresh start with the largest generation ever. And then in the post game, I could bring all my old stuff through.

Sun and Moon took out the national pokedex, which was horrible. And then Sword and Shield took out actual pokemon, by far the worst design decision the company has ever made, by many orders of magnitude.

I agree. I wouldn't go back and play B/W now since B2/W2 were just that much of an improvement, but B/W had the most fun first playthrough of any main series Pokemon game I've ever played.

It's my favorite Gen. I went in with zero knowledge outside of the starters, it made the game so much better.

It's really not that big a deal. I'm far more upset about megas being gone then a bunch of pokemon no one ever used being gone.

Nope, it's a huge deal, and fundamentally changes one of the core aspects of the series. If you don't care about that aspect, that's your thing, but it ruins what pokemon is supposed to be.

Tbh dexit is just kinda weird... considering the models for all the Pokmon already exist, and a chunk of them had already been ported to Switch via Lets Go.

im not like heartbroken personally, just baffled that its not even possible to trade them over, considering every instance up to now of lack of Pokmon was a technical limitation that doesnt exist with Bank/Home >_>

Dexit hit me so hard. Many of my favorite Dark types were gone so I stopped being a Dark type specialist and became a Fairy type specialist. I never felt so ashamed while playing a Pokmon game. My Mawile came in pretty clutch sometimes though. Dang ol Mawile.

BW reinvigorated my interest in the series. Only for XY to drop it back down, and SwSh to completely destroy it.

I dream of a new generation pulling what Black/White did, as forcing players to only use the new Pokemon until postgame was fantastic, especially since they introduced over 150 new Pokemon, and didn't reveal most of them before launch.

Unfortunately, the outcry from people missing old favs combined with far less Pokemon being introduced per gen starting with the 3D games kind of put a kibosh on that.

My favorite part of BW was the story. I'm so sick of these bullshit villain teams that are WE WANT TO CONTROL THE UNIVERSE BY USING MAGIC MONSTERS TO TIME TRAVEL AND KILL THE HUMAN RACE.

Having this grounded villain team that makes you question the entire point of the franchise was actually really compelling for Pokemon.

(Also they were an allegory for PETA which is lolzy AF)

I would love it if Gen 9 introduced no new pokemon besides the new starters and legendarys and instead focused on making the games as good as possible and future proof so that Gen 10 and beyond can be fully fleshed out

That was still Ghetsis Plasma because N was just being used. Part of Team Plasma did split off afterwards but they aren't antagonists anymore at that point.

I mean yeah, the Big Bad lying to manipulate his followers who believe a cause isn't exactly groundbreaking, but that last-minute twist doesn't really undo the rest of the storyline being great.

I mean, it's what Ghetsis turned out to be, though not necessarily all of Team Plasma.

Big Bad manipulating their followers into something he doesn't really believe is a pretty common trope. But it didn't undo all of the great storytelling that BW had
