I didn't get to play it until it came out on the PlayStation 1 bundled with final Fantasy 6 I believe. I really really like the job system but sadly I had to revert everyone to the class that through money for damage because I was getting my ass kicked by the final boss and it was the only way I could win lol

Did that one have horrible load times too?

I recently tried to play the PS1 port of Chrono Trigger that came bundled with FF4 and holy shit. The load times made it unplayable for me. It took a full 5 seconds to just bring up the menu screen.

Havent seen any shmups mentioned yet ITT... should probably add some to the collection soon. Besides Space Megaforce/R-Type III/Aero Fighters/Axelay it seems most are still in the $20-40 range. Think Ill start with Gradius III

Best console ever. Currently have 44 games and counting including many ULTRA RARES!

Games in the 90s just hit different, I really only play SNES or DOS these days since I refuse to pay the $80 price tag for modern games. Complete rip off.

It does. And that was one of the more memorable parts of FF5, but once its over, her character really fades into the background.

Honestly, that, Galufs sacrifice and Gilgamesh are the only memorable parts of the game, IMO.

On the flipside - having only played 1.5 hours of the first one between the two - I feel like seeing what happens at the end of II & spending the rest of the game playing as Maxim's descendant builds up a sense of mystique for the events leading up to it. Idk I'd have to finish both before officially commenting I guess.

I feel playing the first one builds more impact when you move onto the second, because despite what you know, it's not the whole picture. Even Lufia 2 doesn't end *exactly* at the point Lufia 1 depicts.

There's also something to be said for playing a hero for whom you already know the fate of, where no matter how hard you strive, you can't change what's coming, you can only play out the legend as its been retold.

Oh man I loved the super game boy, I never owned one but I borrowed one from a friend for about 6 months and played through final Fantasy Adventure

I've beaten Terranigma to the end (absolutely love that game) a fews years ago
I was like 1/5 through Soul Blazer and haven't started Illusion of Gaia yet

That's a game I wish I enjoyed more. Beautiful art style & a lovely, laid-back OST that accompanies it perfectly... slow-as-all-hell level progression & a really bizarre 100% system. I mean the long-winded, often esoteric means of getting heart stars in every level is one thing, but then you beat the final boss & find out you're still only at 97% - and that you need to do all that to cover a measly 3%? It's Kirby so I still like it obvi but it felt like a bit of a step down from Super Star & maybe even Dream Land 2.

On the plus side that graphic final battle was Also think this was a perfect "swan song" for the SNES since it was the last game released for the system in the west besides multiplat sport games/arcade ports/etc:

I never got far in Illusion of Gaia, but have beaten Soul Blazer 2 or 3 times. One of my first RPG-like games ever.

I finished Dream Land 3 a while back on Switch. The game was enjoyable and I love the visuals and music, but unfortunately the gameplay felt pretty sluggish

Pretty much how I feel about it. Superstar is much better imo.

The Dreamland 3 gameplay complaints are reasonable. The art style carries it for me though, and it's a fun time with a second player. Dream Course is a fun diversion too.

Hell yeah man!!! For an adventure platformer it's pretty linear - there's a world map & all the levels have branching paths, often with different boss battles depending on which route you take (you need to play through levels multiple times to 100% the game because of this since the bosses all drop items/powerups you need to get the true ending). Its Metroidvania-lite approach has some drawbacks (bosses can be really difficult or way too easy depending on which routes you take first) but the atmosphere is unrivaled it's easily one of the best-looking games on the system.

If you want to know the exact criteria for 100%ing the game...
-All power-ups
-All HP containers
-All spells
-All potions
-All talismans

You need to get all that for the true final boss. I know you'll probably want to scope all that out yourself but I'd at least recommend watching 10:35 of this video bc they basically give you no clue on how to find it:

Not really, beat the 2nd boss and went back to playing Grim Dawn. I will probably pick it back up at some point though, it's a cool game.

I grew up with both the NES and SNES, but the SNES is definitely my nostalgia hit (my brother, a few years older, prefers the NES).

IIRC it allegedly generated negative sales figures at one point because more than 50% of copies sold were returned later, which I guess mightve been a calculated effort by some fundie group? Idk the historys pretty murky but I hear people bring it up pretty often when talking about the game.
