I don't think the Seattle comparison is that great. while CHAZ/CHOP was bad...

the amount of people that got shot over the duration of time it happed was...relatively average for the neighborhood. yes this is still sad and terrible, but it's 4 shootings, 2 deaths over 9 days. and a bunch of whackos trying make an "Autonomous Zone"

vs 5 people dead in 1 day. with a bunch of whackos, some with the intent of murder, others with goals of insurrection of the entire federal government (not just some autonomous zone...). I can condemn both but still observe quite the inequality between them, and I can say which one concerns me more.

I do think a lot of people on 'either side' of the political divide do do a lot of conversation that contains too many insults. If you have bothered to talk to someone, you shouldn't insult their intelligence. But I hope that it's OK if I disagree with someone, or point out things I don't think are true. I try not to bring in petty insults.

I think if people care about discourse, it's better to try and ignore the more inflammatory responses people give. Or respond nicely and patiently if possible.

I had to laugh when Zeb brought out that comparison graphic that cited something like 20 shooting deaths associated with BLM protests over 7 months versus 1 shooting death in four hours at the Capitol, attempting to portray the BLM protests as being more violent and terrible than the Capitol attack. Apparently concentration/density is a hard concept for some people to grasp.
