This.

"The optional SAT essay section, first introduced in 2005"

When I took it in 1993-94, there was no essay section and there were only two sections with a combined score of 1600 (people who took it between 2005 and 2015 had three sections and a max score of 2400).

Also, when I took the test, the "subject" portion was known as the SAT II and I don't know a single person who actually took it.

SAT should just cover math and English.

Science and history can stem out of the math and English sections and not actually require knowledge of science or history to answer.

Essay...kinda important but I can see why its being dropped.

The essay portion was bullshit because it was largely subjective and therefore had no place on an aptitude test.

I'm glad those don't exist here. Certain courses (more serious ones) in h/s just had the choice to take your teacher's final or a harder one prepared in the capital by a group. I did the latter, as having four of those completed was more or less a guaranteed acceptance for anything but the really competitive stuff.

I imagine most people here did. Well, maybe Bligh might be young enough to have taken it.

The essay should be the only thing on the SAT. Your ability to form a complete, cohesive, thought is the best measure of intelligence imo.

The SAT exists to provide some objectivity in measuring students across the nation. Essays are probably the absolute worst way to achieve that function, because you're bring highly subjective opinions and biases into the process. The essay portion was moronic when they introduced it, and it's a good thing that it's gone because it introduced the same kind of variability that administrators were trying to avoid in the first place.

The grading of the essay is not at all based on your opinion, it's not even graded based on the subject-matter of the essay.

I don't know about most people. Any PotDer in their 20s would have theoretically taken it when the essays were part of it, and we've still got quite a few of those.

...the fact that it has criteria doesn't remove the possibility for bias. The essays were *individually* read by hired readers and ultimately leaves at least some scoring elements in their hands, unlike the rest of the test. And even your listed criteria leaves a LOT of open room. I imagine that there's a set of criteria given to proctors to limit things a lot more than that, but regardless it won't and can't exclude the readers' biases.

No, it just suggests that probably half of PotD made their first account here when they were 12.

I don't think GameFAQs has attracted an actual new user since 2011.

Do you mean subjective so that the scoring would be different between two reviewers by more than 0.5 points, or subjective in that the grading scale is subjective even though reviewers scores would be consistent? @Zeus

I guess both things are possible, but I was focused more on the grading side because that's the area that would more intuitively have issues.

And you know I don't see tags.
