Tried last week. Not bothering again.

Yes. I bought one line of each. I can't justify my purchase except that I used to be a lottery junkie and every once in a while I feel the urge to play. Then I feel sick about spending the money and stop playing for a while. It's like that scene in King of the Hill where Hank has to catch a fish with drugs so he doesn't go to jail, but the fish are sick because of the drugs and they just swim away.

Not usually, but i try to buy one when it's technically a good bet

For Powerball, that means when the jackpot is in the 500 million dollar range or so

I mean poor people die of drug overdoses literally all the time. I don't know how much lotto played a factor in that unless they were 100% clean before winning.

EDIT: Powerball jackpot won by someone in Maryland (I think). Mega Millions up to another stupidly high amount, drawings Tuesdays and Fridays.

There are a few projects that might be nice to fund, but after that, what's the point of all that money?

There's no point to all that money.

If you win, you get your life squared away smartly and you do the same for as many others as you can (imo).

I suspect some subset of the people that "gambled it all away" are lying- they invested like 30% and burned the rest to convince people not to kidnap and hold them for ransom, or repeatedly beg them for money.

At least, i would consider it. I'd also consider legally changing my name and changing addresses
