I had a crush on my wife ever since around 5th-6th grade. At the end of our Junior year, I was soon going into post secondary, so I wouldnt be there for the senior year. She asked me out, and I learned that shed had a crush on me for years too.

I started dating my wife in 9th grade. No breaks. Will be 20 years together in March. No regrets.

People always ask shit like "but don't you wonder what you missed?". No, I don't. We didn't get together assuming "welp, that's it". We just never had any major problems. Never drifted apart. We share many of the same interests and ideals. We've been happy together the entire time and I wouldn't change a thing.

One of my friends is 35 and is still married to his wife. They started dating as freshman.

He was the best athlete in my class too and would of had lots of options. Not a religious thing either.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but couples like that, I find it highly suspicious. People tend to change very drastically between middle school and high school, and then between high school and college, and then between college and young adult life...

Like, I guess some people could really be that compatible, but it seems really weird that they could change so much but stay together.
OR, that two people could change so little over the course of their adolescence.

I think one of the major factors of why we change damage, or loss. Stands to reason having the security of a lifelong partner from the getgo can avert some 'standard' damage.

Believe it or not I know a good amount of people like that.

I know some guy who has been with his wife for 20 years since we were still in middle school. I also know a lot of other people who have been together since freshman year of high school and are still together 18ish years later.

It hasnt happened to me but I dont think its as uncommon as people think

The truth is love is made not found.

That is why the current dating culture is so toxic. If you don't feel instant sparks, you move on to the next and never find the one.
Sadly, you might have met tons of people you really enjoyed spending time with that shared same values but .... omg no spark!

It's definitely a bit easier in smaller or tighter communities.

I only know of one high school sweetheart couple that was in my general friend circle. I think they took a break from each other in college at some point but then they just went ahead and got married by, like, 21 or 22. The guy in that couple I was fairly tight with back in the day in elementary school. I could see him doing what he did. Straightforward, smart guy.

I met someone at 19 that I thought was gonna be my wife. We broke up when I was 27 over a lie her friend started to this day, I have no idea why she started. Only trouble we had was she was from another country and she had to go back for a year with no end in sight. I met a girl around that time that became a close friend but her best friend convinced her I was cheating on her with supposed eye witness accounts. For the record I wasnt attracted to this girl at all, she was just some gamer chick I met that I hung with when I was with a group of people.

She was inconsolable and her co-worker who was simping over her that past year saw blood in the water and went for it. They been together for the past almost 10 years far as I know, meanwhile Im 36 and havent found the next one yet.

I had absolutely no regrets, proposed and everything. I could definitely see how people can get together early on and stick together for their whole lives. For me though, I just think that if I could break up with her, I could break up with anyone, so now Im pretty apprehensive about getting serious with anyone these days. But when youre with your first love, its like everything is just right.

that is fucked up

Very rare, but know a few couples.

Sounds kinda nice tbh.

I have always thought dating was confusing and awkward.
