Reddit is great for small communities.

I feel like if you're just looking at r/funny or r/memes then sure. It sucks

Reddit has been around since 2010. I doubt actual Zoomers were on it when they were 4-10 years old. Millenials popularized the forum. Zoomers just joined in later.
The start of Gen Z is 1996, so lots of them could've been about 14 years old around that time. Pretty perfect age range for it, too.

I like reddit, but I don't really visit too many gargantuan subreddits. Conversation is limited, it's like everyone provides their 2 cents to the opening post with a few replies here and there. It's built to be a hivemind / echo chamber, which is fine for fan subreddits. I really like GameFAQs tagging users, and both blocking features are pretty nice (though I don't use them).

Every place has its flaws. I don't have a ton of experience with some of these, but these are my impressions.

Reddit - Lack of discussion, echo chamber / hivemind could lead to witch hunts. However, you tend to have many mini-discussions about incredibly specific topics. It's great for news, updates from "important" people, and posting content. Disqus, Youtube, etc. comments fit here as well.

Twitter - Is like an extreme version of reddit. It's chaos, but you can pick and choose people to become your personalized "news feed." Posts can be topical, stream of consciousness, and news. Replies are essentially useless / even more of a hivemind than reddit.

Discord - Discussions are transient, and there's a limit to the number of people that can participate. Can't really have multiple discussions going on concerning the same topic. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to archive good posts and have some organization through channels.

Forums - Threads tend to die within a few days for the popular ones, but you can get some good discussion depending on activity. Trolls are able to derail discussion much more easily. The better (or more controversial) threads tend to stay alive.

Forums (megathreads) - This one feels like a combination of reddit and forums. People provide their opinions with a bit of discussion here and there. It's really tough to continue a single discussion, quoting others from pages back. If it is a megathread concerning an ongoing event or series, it's easy to be left behind when you're not "caught up."

The most common defense of Reddit is that the small subreddits are better than the big ones. And like, I get it - /r/truefilm is obviously better than /r/movies, for instance. But because of the way the site is set up, any subreddit will inevitably be either vulnerable to or actively afflicted by problems such as power-tripping mods, hivemind behavior, upvote manipulation and "downvoting to disagree". Additionally, while one can and should ignore the problem subs, that doesn't stop them from causing damage to society (The_Donald during its barely-regulated years, the incel subs)... or at the very least, promoting shitty behavior en masse (/r/amitheasshole, /r/relationships... hell, just about any sub dealing with interpersonal communication).

I realize that every website has good and bad aspects, but I don't think the positives of Reddit outweigh the negatives. At all. I'd love for it to just vanish into thin air; the good aspects, like historian accounts and price-drop alerts, can be readily found elsewhere.

I do gotta say the sticker system or whatever it's called seems weird to me, but I figure that's more about me being old than anything about reddit as a platform.

If only I could upvote this or show my appreciation through a purchased token.

I usually just look for an answer to my question , or a solution to my problem , (chances are someone else already asked my question) then get out of there immediately .

It's no place for an actual conversation , horrible layout (both old and new) on all devices , and the downvote button is a tool for fanboyism and trolling .
