Ramba Ral is totally a fucking awesome character.
Obviously there's a ton of Char clones, but I love the archetype of the skilled veteran who isn't really a bad guy that can go toe to toe with the protagonist through experience and ability.

The existence of Char sorta cheapen Ral because he had elements of char already there. Such as a slightly different zaku and much more experience. As I said, maybe everybody loves Chara cuz of something he does later on but I feel ral did everything much more right

Okay, I looked for a proper explanation, and apparently it's not (just) because it was a bad episode-

According to TVtropes

Episode 15, "Kukuruz Doan's Island", was removed from the US release by request of Yoshiyuki Tomino himself. While most rumors claim it's due to the horrendous Off-Model animation, Tomino himself said it was due to an issue between himself and a certain member of the staff, but he's not willing to elaborate any further as long as that other person is still alive.

Newtypes are basically superhumans.

Next stage of evolution type of stuff, but it leads to one of the most well known sound effects in anime.

newtypes have enhanced sensory abilities and empathy. they can sense things without needing to see them, as well as perceive the emotions of others. especially with other newtypes they can sense each other and have a connection.

it's easy to just call them superhuman but I think it goes way beyond that, especially if you look at the point of their existence in the original story of Mobile Suit Gundam. characters like Lalah are supposed to represent a better possible future, one without war; humans who evolved to the point where they could use empathy and understanding to forge a path to peace. but because Newtype abilities also make you a better soldier, they still get used as tools of war.
