I assume that person is either: A) Not that analytical about life and the world around them or B) they're severely jaded and cynical and realize that we've all been sold to our corporate overlords, so very little matters.

I'm not into politics - what that means is that I'm going to continue making money, dodging obstacles, and continue working on the things I gotta do

That doesn't mean I don't read up to be aware of the world, it just means I won't join circle jerk groups since I find porn to be a better medium to wack it to

I also don't let myself be convinced that politics are what should be building up my character

In my experience, most people who say that consistently are putting themselves in a bubble, and don't really take a stance to begin with...at least initially.

The problem is when a social issue inevitably comes up that gets their attention, they're more likely to take a more unreasonable or dismissive response due to being so closed off and understanding about the subject.

B is starting to be true for me. I have followed politics all my life but never felt more bleak about the future prospects of our system, so it's becoming more tempting to just tune it out and focus on my life. I don't believe politics or the government can ever truly help me at all.

Doesn't tell me much, since I don't know their reasons for avoiding it.

Incidentally, I'm not into politics myself, but that's because I'm part of the lower class (homeless even) and I know that politics is a game for aristocrats, thus it literally makes no difference what I think because I don't matter to anyone in power.

I think its fine, long as they don't actually try to talk political or civil issues when they basically admit to having no interest in having a frame of reference, and don't understand any nuance.

But..they usually follow the train of "I'm not into politics but I'm going to join a conversation about politics (and or civil issues) and share my extremely lukewarm take anyway and then act surprised that people are calling me narrow minded". Though thats more online than IRL, IRL people that say that legit never pay any attention to anything political lol

What it actually means is "I really don't want to argue with you" and it is simply a defense mechanism against zealotry. You see, the situations where that is said usually involve a person of such a level of arrogance that that conversation would be a minefield. Ignorance does likely account for a lot of it but there are plenty of people that simply have no convictions (ie the humility to accept that everything you believe to be true could be completely fucking wrong) despite ample knowledge, they know that when dealing with the extremes it's best to just get tf outta there as no real conversation can happen

i'm obviously yike...ing at your forced interpretation of what you WANT it to mean to justify going off on them. while politics to a certain degree affects your life in many ways, some people simply aren't concerned with the things they have no power over.

2 possibilities

1). Either older/wise and have matured enough to know it doesnt matter at the end of the day. You can kind of tell he or she has a side and still votes though.

2). Younger, immature, narcissistic, thinks of he or she is better than everyone else because not a sheep, wastes free time smoking weed, drugs, video games lol
