thats not true, i cant speak for every company but most you do get incentive for saving customers from canceling

Next time, call the retention department and ask if they have any discounts or loyalty promo. Mention with covid going on, it's tough to afford these bills and ask if there's anything they can do to help. Mention you don't wanna deal with the trouble of going to another ISP. Be nice. Being insanely nice will get you far. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten huge discounts from ISP customer services just by being nice.

theres not much competition here. theres frontier but they suck. t-mobile home internet on paper isnt bad but ive never used them, and it runs on their mobile network, so i cant imagine its that good

who did you cancel for? how do you know they wouldnt have kept you?

i used to work at AT&T and its a common practice to threaten to cancel in order to get discounted rates

AT&T actually. 1000Mbs internet and TV and no cap. It was mostly the cap really.

1) i have called in the past and nicely asked if theres any promos i could be put on. i never threatened to cancel though. and they would never do anything with me

2) its my mistake. the dude i was talking to...you could tell he was about to fall asleep or something. i didnt have confidence in him. should have hung up.

tbh i've never used the cancellation bluff just because i feel like they know and then you have to schedule and you're kinda screwed. if you don't get the result you want from one rep, you can always try again with another.

I've been playing Frontier and Comcast against each other for years.

I usually get the best deals by jumping on the sales hungry reps set up at Wal-Mart.

Right now I'm paying 70 a month for 200 down.. It'll go up to 100 soon and then 120 in another year.

At which point I'll go to a Comcast rep and be like "What can you do for meeee?"

When I lived in a different area with Comcast, I did this a few times and it was hardly a hassle. Currently I only Cox and they said they couldn't give me a lower rate (I asked for what I got when I first signed on) despite calling on three separate occasions. However when I went to the store to return the modem the rep asked why I was canceling and found a coupon (or whatever) that allowed him to give me the discounted price

This time i was more transparent. I admitted I am trying to find discounts and cheaper options. Mentioned I don't want to cancel but I need to save any way I can.

Dude offered me a shitty deal where I would pay $10/mo extra for faster internet and I would be put on spectrum mobile. I declined and asked to be transferred to retention. He told me I am connected with retention right now. So I asked him to cancel my cancellation. So at least I can keep my service.

Maybe I'm being spoiled. I'm paying $60/month for 25 Mbps Internet. Most people don't have that plan, but just trying to save as much money as I can. I recently bought a car and my hours were cut recently.

1) frontier. believe it or not, its worse than spectrum
2) spectrum
3) greenlight. awesome service, but not available where i live. i wish it were
4) T-Mobile home internet, as mentioned
