Canada soon to be headed for trouble, and I dont mean snow fall.

One was in regards to healthcare collapsing, the other is cost of living outside in major urban areas

After doing a quick Google search on the subject, I don't think so. It seems there are some people taking certain percentages of our healthcare spending and being disingenuous with its applicability.

As for cost of living outside of urban areas, that's just the free market at play. Eventually those costs will come down if people stop paying those prices.

Oh, that is another one of the possible crises we are facing too, foreign buyers and etc. Forgot about that.

Yeah, this discussion happened before COVID but maybe the point was unsustainability, but that's probably just a rabbit hole.

I guess I could have looked this up, but I wanted to see what the reaction to the idea is

The sustainability is what I looked into for my response.

As far as foreign buyers, im not 100% sure what they would be buying.

I wish I didn't sell that book, I reference it a lot -_-

Canada at least appears to be democratic, which is good enough to not violently overthrow such a system

I would argue that democracy just means deliberation between parties that are not operating under the same organization, unless that organization also happens to be the entire citizenry, I guess

see, I think that can be part of it. but it's not the whole picture. I think the parties, however many there are, have to actually operate in the interest of the citizenry. the major parties in Canada do not do this.

I think the citizenry also has to have a similar kind of power when it comes to things like their workplace. Canada does not have this.

Yeah real estate is getting really worrisome. Now more and more young Canadians are moving out of the cities and the small town real estate prices are jumping. It's just not a pretty situation and none of our politicians are brave or noncomplicit enough to deal with it.

That's interesting. This is probably before covid right? I'd assume covid would encourage people to stay put for now. Although on the flip side I can also see that encouraging people to get houses for themselves.

Taxes are gonna have to go up a lot eventually which will make the cost of living much more expensive, given how Trudeau is sending Canada into deep levels of debt from tons of spending.

Lots of pandemic subsidies and a huge chunk of money to purchase a pipeline that has now tripled due to cost overruns.

How can I get a house for myself when average prices in my city in a single year went from $465,000 to $671,000? Nothing I can do about Toronto citizens cashing out their multi million homes and bully buying multiple Ottawa properties.

Tell me about it. My mom bought her first house in 98 for 89.5k. Sold 5 years later for 279k. Bought another house for 319 and sold 9 years later for 519k (she did redo the kitchen though).

She sold that house barely over a year ago and its being flipped for 600k with just a new patio added on.

Vancouverites and Albertans moving here fucked thing up hard the last 20 years and especially the last 4 or 5.

how rare are completed properties in the 100k-200k range? Sounds like that would be in low supply.

Non existent.

Even if there's one for under 400k its immediately snapped up and the house is torn down either by a family for a bigass new home in its place or a developer who got the designation flipped and built a 4 plex.
