Sure it did, it put on the record that Trump incited a failed coup. Now it's up to the Senate to punish him.

If he's impeached, he can be banned from ever running for federal office again and he can lose all his post-term privileges like his pension and such.

Also, you know...to make the statement that if a president incites an insurrection, he's not above the law and will be held accountable...

Makes sense. So was he not impeached before? Did it pass the house but not the senate?

He was impeached but not convicted by the republican majority senate.

One word: Pelosi.

Not yet, depends on the Senate now.

It's not gonig to do anything anyway. You'd need a 2/3s vote, which is never going to happen, and that vote likely won't take place until AFTER Trump has left office. All congress did was waste time they could have been using to fix actual problems, but that's the hallmark of their ineptitude.

Except it actually doesn't any more than any other token statement and, more importantly, it was never really a "coup" in the first place considering that there was no attempt to seize the reins of power. Instead they just made jackasses out of themselves, taking selfies in peoples' chairs, stealing shit, and then either surrendering or fleeing. And other than breaking into the capitol, there didn't seem to any collective thought process. That's why at worst the media has been calling it an insurrection, whereas only the goofiest of partisans call it a coup, including Californian Democrats who have been trying to use it to defend attempts to recall their governor by linking the two events (something that probably only makes sense in California).

That's completely untrue, and a good example of why you shouldn't get your political "facts" from Facebook memes and Tweets.

This is probably the main reason why I'll never run for public office or start a commentary show or whatever. My hippocampus is shot.

Do you even read your own fucking sources, Lightning Boy?

Neither a second House impeachment nor even a Senate vote to convict Trump and remove him from office would prevent him from running again, in 2024 or beyond.
Rather, after two-thirds of senators present voted to remove Trump, a simple majority of senators present would have to approve an additional vote to bar him from the presidency in the future.

The 2/3 vote to convict is the hard part. yes, it's technically an extra step after that to bar him from office ever again, but it only requires 51 votes, which the 50 Dems + Harris tie breaker can get by default (though if 17 Republicans vote to convict, presumably at least some would go w/ the additional vote, too).

As for the pension...

Trump would not lose his pension if the House impeached him for his role in inciting the insurrection -- just as he didn't lose his pension when the House impeached him in 2019 over his effort to use the US' relationship with Ukraine for his own political ends. Rather, under the Former Presidents Act, he would lose his pension only if the Senate voted to convict him and remove him from office.
You're literally just splitting hairs on the term "impeached" vs. "convicted", when I specified "if" he is...in a post made after the impeachment vote already passed. You know damn well what I meant.
If the Senate actually doesthe right thing and convicts him, he's losing his pension, and then in a super fucking easy follow up vote, he's stripped of the ability to run for federal office ever again, too.

Deal with it.
