Would you have a meltdown if you lost out 220 million all because you forgot your password?
Vote
And now 9 years later, the computer programmer is LOCKED ou tof his digital wallet containing 220 MILLION worth of Bitcoins with only 2 GUESSES left to figure out his password before the contents are encrypted and locked FOREVER!! But he lost his password known as a digital key to the online wallet and despite trying all his regular combinations, he has remained locked out of his prize that has soared in the past month He said "I would just lay in bed and think about it. Then i would go to the computer with some new strategy, and it wouldn't work, and i would be desperate again"... While he has kept hold of bitcoin in other wallets that have made him rich, he still joins the many holders who lost the chance at adding to their wealth all because of lost passwords They are forced to watch others cash in while their own money is behind an ironkey, a system which gives users only 10 attempts before it encrypts. According to the NYT, 18.5 million Bitcoin, worth now 140 billion are currently being held in stranded wallets The value of bitcoin rose dramatically and has now 3 times the number of daily requests with 70 people a day placing requests for aid in recovering their riches One man, Brad Yasar said he spent hundreds of hours trying to remember his password and now placed the hard drives that contain the bitcoin in vacuum sealed bags and out of sight cause he doesn't want to be reminded every day what he lost Thomas is also keeping his mind off of it stating "I got to a point where i said ot myself, let it be in the past, just for your own mental health" Would you have a meltdown if you lost access to your 220 MILLION smackers all because you forgot your password? Who could honestly vote no to this? I mean, I guess if you had like 10 trillion dollars or something and just considered this petty change, but I can see almost no one being able to answer no honestly.

I fully admit that I have no idea how bitcoin actually functions, but how is it that he can't possibly reacquire the password and/or have additional chances to access it? What happens if hackers try to brute force his password and get him locked out?

That this is possible just doesn't really make sense to me. There's no way to recover this? But I guess this might be considered a feature of bitcoin

What happens if hackers try to brute force his password and get him locked out? Crypto wallets can tied to the hard drives themselves and are generally kept offline. There are online crypto wallets as well, but they are less secure and when you hear about a major bitcoin theft it's usually involving a service that handles online wallets. --- ...
