It's not as Teen heavy as season 2 is. I would say the Sensei are the main focuses of season 3.

I just want to say, Tory instantly became my favourite character in Season 2 and I was afraid she'd no-show since a few other characters were off the show, glad to see her again in this season, though I could see she only got "guest star" treatment this go-around, hopefully she's more front and centre in Season 4. But every time she'd show up I would do the equivalent of this:

General season 3 thoughts:

-I dug it but it really was a filler season, resolving season 2 & setting up season 4
-Big fan of bringing back Kyler from S1 to be in the Cobra Kai crew, lol
-In addition to rewatching the first two seasons before S3, I also watched Karate Kid Pt 2 and 3 for the first time, and I did not care for Pt 2 but I enjoy Pt 3 way more than I should have, and...
-I am looking forward to Terry Silver shenanigans in Season 4, lol

Yeah, I don't get why the actress playing Tory got listed as a guest. She had as much screen time as a regular, and I think they did a better job fleshing her out as a character this season than last.

As for the people I really saw as (welcome) guests yay for Chozen and Kumiko

Some thoughts of mine, in response to Martin

I don't think it was totally a filler season. The resolution to the Doyona sub-plot was definitely lazy writing at its most obvious and Miguel's healing was all unicorns and quintuple rainbows worth of realism, but certain characters (Robbie, Tory, Hawk) followed the trajectory I expected them to and even grew past where I thought they'd go.
I am also a fan of bringing Kyler back. He was actually an imposing foe in S1 and with Cobra Kai training I can see him returning to that role nicely.
I've been waiting for Terry Silver for a long time now, for whatever reason I feel like he and Robbie would make for a natural pairing.

I guess since she was only credited as being in 7 episodes lets them make that billing (missing in episodes 1, 3, 4). But then that allowed her surprise appearance in episode 5 that gave me a reaction like in the video I linked, hahaha. But I also wonder if there's a cost implication, since (outside of the senseis) she's the only one with legit past acting experience? So would probably cost more to give her full billing? Though she's certainly the face of Cobra Kai in S4 (with Robbie) and with that Netflix money backing the show I better get my 10 episodes of Tory!!!

And I didn't mean "filler" as in nothing changed but it did feel a bit like "going through the motions". Like I figured before the season even started that this would all end up in a WWE-style "loser shuts down" match at the tournament and sure enough that's where we ended up. Though it does get me excited for Season 4 and I still like the Hawk redemption arc and Robbie descent to the dark side (figure him and Tory will be a thing in S4 too...)

And we'll get Dojo Odd Couple shenanigans that'll be fun to see. And yeah, Terry and Robbie, didn't even think about that! Robbie as the new Mike Barnes, hahaha. Just hope we don't have to wait a year and a half this time!

Loving it.

Great that they revisited TKK2.

Now if Silver and/or Barnes resurfaces, it's all gravy!

Well, he is technically in a gang, so I think that gives him some added protection against retaliation. Given his martial arts skills someone would have to take him by surprise AND be prepared to deal with the fact that he's never without at least a couple of other dudes by his side. I don't think attempting a triple homicide is worth it to get back at a kid for being an asshole.

Did not disappoint. Especially with Silver in Flashbacks and being Primed to appear in S4 coming this fall provided COVID doesn't fuck things again.

I finished season 1 last night and loved every minute of it. There are so many references and Easter eggs to the trilogy, it's just so great.

Season 3 was a bit slow in the beginning but it's up to snuff by the end. Another excellent season. Johnny remains the glue that makes this the best show on TV.

Eagle Fang is in tandem, Kyler is still 100% bad. Though Cobra Kai is now just down to Robbie, Tory and Kyler as characters with any speaking role/presence, they'll need some fresh blood next season or the faceless background characters get upgraded...
Tory's actress does a great job with that role and the craziness, but her being a babe also helps
The suspension of disbelief re: police involvement (fighting your way out of an eviction order, breaking an arm with no repercussions, complete house destruction, Kreese attempting murder twice) but hey, we won't have a tv show if the cops solve everything. Just like a "Tournament Loser Shuts Down" agreement isn't legally binding and Kreese can just be like "lol fuck you I'm not going anywhere" even if Cobra Kai loses. Everybody fighting their way out of every situation makes things pretty entertaining!!

Haha. Very true! Im also tired of TV shows shoving down the viewers throats that girls can be just as strong, or even stronger, than boys.

I like Hawk, mostly because of his transformation in season 1. I also get where he was coming from in the last two seasons, even if I didn't like it.

It was interesting at first, his transformation, but then he just took things way too far. And his sudden change of heart felt forced and out of nowhere.

I just chalked it up to the idea that he was so insecure in season 1 that when he did his whole makeover thing he tried to be someone he really wasn't. The events in season 3 just pushed him a bit too far and he realized that that wasn't who he was.

Sure that's what they were going for, I just don't think they did a good job of selling it. Like all throughout season 2, he did horrible things and never did see or sense even a single ounce of remorse. I assume it's because they hadn't planned that far ahead. Not to mention if I was Demitri, I'd be like hell to the fuck no lol.

The problem with Hawk's turn is they didn't give us enough reason.

I assume the intention was that Robbie kept showing Hawk up and taking his attention and star status... and without that social acceptance which he always sorely lacked ore-Hawk in Season 1... he no longer had a reason to continue acting out. The problem is... showing a single snake scene didn't get us to that point for the turn to seem natural. I mean it was only seconds after breaking into Sam's house and assaulting the others that he decides to turn for someone about to do the same thing he himself did to Dmitri... Sure, maybe there is a little internal justification we didn't get to see of maybe when he saw someone else doing it to Dmitri that it brought back memories of them being bullied... but they didn't show it to us... Makes it all seem unnatural.

Face turn was inevitable, but execution was pretty lame. Would've been more substantive next season. Probably would have been better if it simply never happened, at least not until the very very end.

Tory/Peyton List is a good actress and character and all, but I am constantly distracted by how her head is a perfect sphere. She wore a beanie at one point and I howled with laughter.

I thought Sam's story was pretty damn good. Miguel's was too convenient, but also entirely necessary.

I really liked using our extra special guest as a mechanism to have Johnny (and Daniel) embrace the future rather than dwelling on the past. Clever.
