Extremely limited supply vs people with shittons of disposable cash, at least some of whom see the constant inflation as a chance for an investment.

Honestly, if I had obscene amounts of money and there was a novelty item I always kinda wanted, I might be tempted to drop that kind of money myself... although I'm not sure I'd ever care that much about a comic or a rare book or some such.

Yeah, I'm just always super confused what people view as wildly valuable. The comic themselves I can understand, people want a print version of comics, those are pretty expensive to make (I imagine), and they cost a not insignificant amount of money. Plus supply has gotta be weird.
But an old version? The first version? I really don't follow that.

Been reading Stranger in a Strange Land bit by bit on my lunch breaks. For some reason, since the beginning, I've been reading Michael Valentine's human voice in my head the entire time in Fat Buu's voice.

I have a sneaking suspicion around the 65% mark that I'm not too far off the mark as to where this story is heading.

don't spoil me or anything, but chamber those thoughts for when i finish the book.

I've often mentioned my enjoyment of AbsoluteHistory in here, but one thing on that channel fucking sucks -- anything involving Tony fucking Robinson, which feels decidedly off-brand between his presentation, his awkward joking style, the more infotainment style of history he uses, clickbait with little payoff (like the Hound of the Baskervilles one), and -- in the case of this video -- the poor sound editing (the editing quality wasn't great in the others, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as this). I shudder to think that if somebody's first experience was the channel was this bozo, that they wouldn't be inclined to give it a second look.

(And despite complaining about the lack of quality, I'm currently watching something from his series anyway although I don't think I'll watch a third one after this.)

Disenchantment season/part 3 dropped... and I can't remember half the shit that happened in s2. I remember it ending on a cliffhanger or something, but I'm only vaguely aware of it. It's weird, because I can remember *most* of s1 but even after I started trying to remember s2, so much of it is just a blur.

At any rate, I was at one of the closing Gamestops today. They had pre-owned games discounted by 90%, including a lot of XB1 stuff. At the price, it was kinda tempting, but I stopped and thought that I'm unlikely to *ever* pick up an XB1 or otherwise receive one. (And, of course, I still haven't used my ps4.)

Forgetably funny is a good way to describe the show. That said, s3 certainly *felt* a lot funnier than either s1 or s2. I know that s1 took a while to get going, since the first episode or two was a dud. And while I had remembered a bunch of stuff right before starting s3, that recap was certainly a major help because I'd completely forgotten the whole assassination plot that ends in Beanie getting blamed and a lot of the plotting in general. I guess I remembered more of the first half of the season, then some of the later stuff while leaving out details.

The real test will be how much of this season I remember... although part of that will also come down to the fact that I just binged all 10 episodes in a row.

I just finished playing KotOR and started playing KotOR2, so at the moment I'm technically 16 years behind.

Though to be fair, I HAVE played those both before (multiple times). It's just that the current scene is such a bleak hellscape of games I will never, ever care about, that I'm psychologically retreating back to the time when I actually enjoyed games.

I do still have to finish PS4 God of War, Uncharted 3/4/Lost Legacy, and Syberia 3 at some point, but I just can't motivate myself to start any of them. I was also in the middle of perfecting Dishonored: Death of the Outsider a while back (ie, beating the entire game with no detections and no kills), but I lost interest about halfway through, and by this point it's been so long I've probably lost all the skills I'd honed and would have to start the whole thing over from scratch anyway.

tbh, the fact that the Switch doesn't need a tv is pretty much the only reason I've been used that.

Trying to think of the last time I started a RPG, invested some time, but didn't finish (and still aren't finished). Nothing really jumps to mind, though. *Maybe* FF9 like 20 years ago, but that was because I was trying to do some very specific stuff (iirc, steal something from the four guardian bosses when they split your team up).

Granted, Pokemon LG!P and Shield I put at least a few hours into before not continuing... oh, maybe the Mystery Dungeons. Those I put time into but never finished iirc. I had a bad starter in one of them so I kept failing missions, then Explorers of Time/Darkness I don't think I finished because I kept bombing something.

Instead of finding ways to make history more interesting or relatable, the channel has really gone off the deep end over the years. I'm watching this shit and laughing. (EDIT: Although the presentation is goofy as fuck, the "expert" is at least a little on the skeptical side, but a lot of the people he interviews are positively batshit and have no place there except for local color.)

Oh, plus apparently those few really awful videos on AbsoluteHistory are put out by a company which has the same content on other channels.

Shame on History Channel for producing this crap... and shame on me for watching it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx6OnKXEr7M

The three crew members / "experts" (using the term as loosely as possible -- and if they do have an expertise in something, I hope they find it someday) are borderline intolerable, but the narrator was great and I enjoyed a lot of the side information. However, the investigation was a bad joke and -- despite having final cut -- the crew come up looking like bigger idiots and loons than the people they interviewed.

But goddamn if I'm not starting a History Channel series binge now. Fuck! >_<

They might have had their reasons. For starters, the usage is likely up a ton so they're less able to provide service and inflation is a thing. Not that I necessarily side with M$. Personally I believe that the consolemakers should still be providing free online play.

It felt like a more visible nod to the fact that intuitively it sounds like a channel devoted to science fiction yet it has very little science fiction on it (and certainly no science in the case of its "paranormal research" shows). Instead it has "Syfy," whatever that is >_>

The only thing Syfy has really done in recent years that I've been interested in at all is Channel Zero, and that was mostly for Candle Cove and not their craptacular decision to adapt NoEnd House, one of the worst popular creepypastas (although most of the popular are terrible; only a handful like Candle Cove and Penpals are great)

Otherwise I'm still on my History Channel binge. After another two or three episodes of America Unearthed, which -- once you get past the star's terrible acting -- isn't all that bad. Of course, the problem with this and the other shows is that it they make historical claims that, at best, may be misleading and, at worst, are quite possibly misinforming. While I'm watching it for the entertainment value, I'm more than a little worried that I could buy into some of their misleading/misinformative supporting claims (ie, the things they cite as historical precedent to justify considering the current investigation) even while dismissing the subject of the investigation as speculative bullshit (which, in the case of America Unearthed, even the star seriously questions the subject, although usually he pretends that there's an element that could be possible).

Based on the arbitrary definitions I use for terminology, I'd argue that true geeks have no real affinity for math, because that's a nerd thing.

As much as the mainstream has kind of taken both terms and mangled them, the way they always broke down in the past (for me and everyone I ever talked to, anyway), "geek" is more someone who is obsessed with something while "nerd" is someone who is smart about STEM stuff and computers.

So you're a computer nerd or a math nerd, but a comic geek.
