You're smart enough to make between 152k and 213k per year, you do the math to figure out which one is better. If you can't, you give both jobs to me.

That doesn't mean anything. A dude in my family was literally a scientist that died because he didn't want to take his meds.

Oof. Well, the extra salary will offset that.

My cousin has something crazy like a 100% match, but they cap how much he can contribute each quarter or whatever otherwise he'd just toss as much as he could in there.

It's not. But it's been going on since...early college, maybe a topic every month or two, it's been a big part of my concentration and has let other parts of my life take a hit and need to be rebuilt. I forget the rottenmonk topics.

What does the job entail?

Day to day is pretty much just solving problems that come up and having some technical know-how about the science of some software that's becoming increasingly blackbox and automated. Like one day a year I calibrate things. Week to week I figure out ways to improve the site and try to implement it. I'm like part IT-guy, part scientist, part manager. I've been really enjoying where I work and what I do lately! I can talk about it as much as you want over pm.

you do the math to figure out which one is better.

It gets complicated dealing with taxed and untaxed money from multiple retirement accounts and raises and moving costs and figuring out my lease and everything. Like I can defer taxes on an extra 34k at one place, which would be nice...but i also don't know how to really value that. Right now I math out if I just get like a 13% raise I might be better off just staying where I am because of the benefits.

Truthfully if a company gave me only 24 hours to decide on a major life change like that, I will turn it down immediately. I would require them to give me at least four more like seven days to decide, theyre trying to force you to make a snap decision on something that large. If they have someone who will take that job that quickly and they only wanna give me 24 hours then the other person can have the job. If they want me bad enough, they will give me the time to make an actual decision.

I actually realized a few minutes ago the 24 hours were up by the time I read the email >_< I'm going to ask them to give me a week.

Also what do you mean theres no HSA, you can open an HSA account on your own. Or do you mean that they have no badge or employee employer input into it?

Oh cool, I didn't realize I could open my own. I'm going to have to check and see if it's compatible with what they offer for health insurance.

I was very surprised but also not entirely after talking to a bunch of companies. I'm just trying to math it all out. I keep getting that I probably should just stay, which seems kinda counterintuitive to me.

Ive heard of companies that allow this. If they dollar for dollar matched contributions with no limit thats awesome. We switched retirement accounts management companies recently and I think this new one says I can do the mega backdoor Roth strategy with mine, so Im pretty excited about that.

I probably shouldve said theyll match 7% of biweekly paycheck, so about a 10k employer contribution. But maybe that was implied because I think thats how they usually work? Im not sure, the few Ive seen all worked like that.
