And then they just never bothered to make a sequel or anything

That was the snowpocalypse. Had a 25 hour watch, got my car stuck in the snow driving two coworkers back to their houses on base, had my muffler torn off, had to park a mile away from my house and walk back in my dress shoes and when I got there my roommate and other roommate's boyfriend were like "omg you can get out? Let's go buy breakfast and snow shovels and salt!" so we went and did that then I spent all day shoveling and drinking. They took off to see Avatar but I stayed back to help the neighbors. Never did see the movie.

I really am curious how well the next one will do at the box office. A lot has changed regarding how and where people watch movies and I don't think anybody cares about 3d anymore.

People only ever cared about it for that movie. Studios totally misread the moment and just shoved random 3d into stuff for no reason.

To be fair the 3D in Avatar was pretty damn amazing.

I wasn't ever impressed by any other 3D movie.
