If I got a telescope or microscope it might say something like 250x magnification or something like that. But for cameras magification is represented as a ratio of sensor size to lens size so a camera with "1:1" magnification, which you might think means "no magnification, life size" is actually very much zoomed in - maybe as much as 3~4x as presented (well, with my current camera at least) --- "Salt cures Everything!"
