I haven't played 3, but I have strong opinions on the first 2 (I did a Let's Play of Dead Space 2 btw.... it's up to 4 views)

Dead Space 1 is a great 'the dangers of space' game and the subtle exploration mechanics make the environment very interesting.

Dead Space 2 is more of a direct action game and while not as scary, has quite a lot of good arenas... better combat arenas than Bioshock for sure.

Ds1 was best

Ds3 could have been better especially if one of the players had marker affects like isaac is fighting a horde while the other is seeing a a non existent boss monster.

Also you left out ignition and the one one the wii that played like house of the dead

I only ever played through the first game and never had a chance to check out the other two. I liked it, but I never felt like I was missing much by not playing the other two.

Thanks for this topic. I have been playing games on my Steam backlog and now got the itch to play Dead Space 1. Initially something about the third-person view felt weird to me. I am accustomed to playing that from the Mass Effect series but something about Dead Space 1 felt sluggish. Maybe it was my GPU or control settings.

Should I prioritize upgrades on the Plasma Cutter or since this is my first time actually playing it, just use whatever I like and stick to that weapon?

Plasma Cutter and the suit. Do it with just those. Unlocking other weapons will spawn mixed ammo, which can result in running short for weapons you are using. If you just own the Plasma Cutter, then only that ammo will drop, and it will be a powerful weapon.

I only played the first 2, but I actually enjoyed 2 the most, just slightly. Good games.

The two main complaints that stand out in my memory are
-i didn't understand the story at all, even while playing it. It seemed really difficult to follow, even for a Rick and Morty fan like myself.
-there was no reason to give Isaac a face and voice in DS2 if he was just gonna be some generic white guy with absolutely zero personality.

I'm optimistic about the spiritual successor that was teased recently. Will hopefully have a story I can follow.

The Plasma Cutter is a prime example of Magikarp Power. it really is THAT good as a solo weapon.

I played 2 before 1, and felt the controls for 1 were pretty bad in comparison. They were all great, but 2 was my favourite.

Plasma Cutter is a solid weapon, so you can consider it part of the 'whatever i like and stick to it' category.

Enemies only drop ammo for weapons you actually have, so it really does favour sticking to a minimum of favourite weapons

20 some hours later, that was a really fun experience. Thinking back, my first attempt at playing was frustrating because of the PC mouse control and me playing like a typical FPS game. Getting both the third-party mouse fix and being more strategic in using the plasma cutter and stasis module made a world of a difference.
