White Palace hype! *happy buzzsaw noises* Yeah Hiveblood is just about mandatory for that bit. Did you do the Path of Pain in there?

I haven't tried the Path of Pain yet, might try it later. Is it required for 112%?

Just checked and apparently it isn't! Weird. You should give it a go though, it is its own reward/punishment.

I never beat the fourth Godhome pantheon to get the new ending and it makes me sad.

Pure Vessel kicked my ass every time I got to him. Just needed to practice more in the Hall of Gods. I got good enough to beat him there, but not consistently and always choked when I got to him in the Pantheon.

I beat fucking NKG though so I know I could've done it eventually.

There's a Hunter's Journal entry to mark you've done it but no percentage point or ability or charm or anything physical like that. A cool brief cutscene though.

Good luck! I gave up at the third one's boss or so, also did you try the secret infinite Zote battle?

Oh, no. That's the only thing I skipped since I was told it makes the pantheons a bit easier.

Just seeing this now! @banananor

Both Ori games, and also throw in Bloodstained!

If you're into slightly older games Cave Story is an absolute classic. I also have a soft spot for Guacamelee but I think its more the style im into as opposed to how good it is

Oh, we recommending Metroidvanias now? Axiom Verge and Yoku's Island Express! And uh, a game where it's kind of a spoiler that it's a Metroidvania so I won't say its name >_>

Hollow Knight is my fav though, above Super Metroid even.

Are you talking about that Ninja Gaiden-y game that I can't remember the name of? I don't know if that's really a spoiler since it was in the trailers and marketing

The only thing I don't like about the combat in this game, and it's a problem I have with a lot of games, is that colliding with an enemy damages you even if they aren't attacking or anything (not including enemies with spikes and stuff obviously) I could understand that being a thing 30 years ago but there's no reason an enemy just standing there should be a hit box these days imo

I still really enjoy the game, though!

Yeah, The Messenger. I just picked it up on Game Pass not knowing about that stuff so it was a nice twist for me.

I get what you mean but I think it works in this game. Some of the enemies are massive and they should be a threat you don't want to brush up against. The damage noise+pause is so good too, super annoying in the best way to make you not want to mess up (there was a video I watched recently that talked about that, made me appreciate the mechanic in a deeper way).

I will always hate the side of spikes hurting you in games though, never defensible!

It mostly annoys me against teleporting enemies because you can't really predict where they're going to pop in. I lost 9000 geo (again) on the third set of those grimkin because I forgot to grab my shade, and when I realized and made a dash for it he teleported into my dash path for two masks of damage >_>

Speaking of which I tried fighting Nightmare King Grimm a few times and safe to say I was pwned

NKG took me like 4 to 5 hours to beat. I'm...fairly certain that's the longest I've ever spent to beat a single boss.

Still kind of in awe that I did. The first hour or so when you're still in the learning phase it just seems so daunting and impossible.

youre reading that backward. Not doing the Zote battle at all is what makes the pantheon easier. I think it just doesnt include him in the pantheons if you havent fought him?

Ahhh okay. Interesting. I can't even remember what pantheon he was in, but he was never a particularly tough boss anyway.

Also I actually DIDN'T know about the infinite Zote battle in Godhome at all! I was thinking of just the regular Grey Prince Zote fight where you can go back and fight him over and over, but apparently that only goes up to 10 and isn't actually infinite.

Yeah I should've clarified, there's not really a feasible way people would just randomly come across the punchline infinite battle without knowing about it beforehand.

I picked the Grimm Troupe option that got rid of them so didn't face NKG, but unlike Zote he turns up in the Pantheon anyway :(

thanks! i had heard good things about the oris, but for some reason didn't realize they were that deep. i think i went through guacamelee in 2 player mode way back when

it's hard to imagine the others being up to par (hollow knight has really good controls and art) but they'll be going on the list

Ori 2 is wildly influenced by Hollow Knight and wears it on its sleeve. To me, it's like a more condensed Hollow Knight with a slightly worse world and better storytelling. Both Ori games are wonderful, but since I like Hollow Knight better gameplay wise, Ori 2 was like the best of both worlds.

Can't say I'd say it's definitively the better game since HK's world is just so strong, but it's a must play.

Bloodstained is also incredible and my other go to answer for favorite recent Metroidvania. Basically, Aecioo's taste is on point.

After you beat Grimm the first time and go hunting for your third set of flames, if you go to the Deepnest location you meet Brumm and he talks to you about not wanting to be used as a slave to the Troupe anymore. You can then head back to where you first lit the flame to summon the Troupe and help him banish them+himself from existence, breaking the cycle. The Troupe disappears from Dirtmouth entirely, and a new accordion player with amnesia shows up instead, implied to be some kind of reincarnation of Brumm.

You don't get the NKG boss fight this way and you lose Grimmchild but gain a different charm instead. Narratively I much prefer this outcome, though of course people who love the boss challenges don't do it.
