yes, i do ascension 20 runs basically all the time. i mostly only play silent nowadays though.

Yeah, pretty much all I play other than Hades and LoL.

I'm on A14-17 for the main 3 and like 8 on the Watcher.

oh nice. I had a silent a20 clear today - a nice synergy with tough bandages, hovering kite and tools of the trade for free energy/block every turn. I had 3 prepared cards for free block/cycling my deck and found a second wraith form in the act 4 store to make the heart trivial.

i just started a couple weeks ago. i like to get them all on the same ascension level before i level any up further. Only on 4 and i still havent beaten the final (i assume) boss. Great game to play when i just want to listen to music and do MATH

I started and played a decent amount last month before buying Hades, which ended up complete gobbling up my rougelike attention.

It's really good! Kind of stunningly well designed for a deckbuilder, which isn't a type of game I typically gel with. Likely because of that statement though, I appear to be not-so-great at it - it easily feels like the toughest rougelike I've played. Cleared A0 with each of the original three characters but even A1 straight up shuts down most of my runs before I see the act 3 boss. The idea of doing A20, having read all the modifiers it brings, is kind of nuts to me where I'm at now. Still, I definitely want to get back to it and climb the ranks a bit.

you do get a lot better at is as you play it to be fair. and you unlock some relics and shit. but A20 is still really difficult to actually kill the heart on

Fun game. I'll have to get back to it sometime and push into some higher A levels, but what time I've spent has nevertheless been a rewarding experience.

slay the spire is shockingly well designed. its balance is ridiculously good across classes and the more you play, the more you find how cards can synergize with the various relics and such. you also learn the movement patterns of each enemy and it becomes a lot easier to know what to prepare for.

You Slay the Spire FREAKS should try out Dicey Dungeons if you haven't already or if you're looking for something new. I think it's a little more casual than Slay the Spire but it's pretty good and only $12-15

I play it on my phone on Gamepass all the time. Only thing that sucks is you can generally tell if the run is a dud or not pretty early and it's annoying you basically are just at the whim of luck a lot.

I actually had played Dicey Dungeons before getting Slay the Spire. It's certainly in a similar stripe of game, and well worth the experience, although I'd say it is more on the casual side of things usually...especially with regards to the character it has that has StS style mechanics. Doesn't stop it from being fun though.

I just helped bail my son out on a defect run (he plays on normal because hey he's 7). he had this goofy run that had 3 storm+'s which are innate. his strategy was to play them, play electrodynamics and his other power cards to channel tons of lightning orbs, and then finish it off with thunder strike. it was crude but it worked!

...except that he unfortunately drew awakened one so I had to help him show restraint on just dumping all of his power cards immediately. some carefully played glacier, consume, charge battery and go for the eyes and we barely eeked out a win. vulnerable potion and thunder strike+ with that setup is a fun 200 damage though!

I didn't like Dicey Dungeons that much, but the real Spire-like I'll recommend is Monster Train. Very similar game but with a tower defense premise - mechanics are borrowed from Spire in a lot of places but improved upon. I've been addicted to it for all of 2020.

I want to play Monster Train, but Ill enjoy it more when it comes to a mobile platform like Switch or a phone or whatever.

kept going 'one more run' for so long i put in a good 30-40 hours and didn't realize it.

then i changed hard drives.

I just had the most broken defect run ever.

the key here is bottled echo form, letting me play my first card every turn twice. I have an absolute boatload of power cards and bird-faced urn which heals me for 2hp each time I play one. I also have self repair so I can heal for 20 each fight if I play it first. I took 50 damage to the jawworm pack on turn 1 and was at full hp by the end.

I also have two biased cognitions, panacea+ and core surge which lets me boost my focus up to about 25 with no downside thanks to all the artifact charges. I also bought the artifact relic too. sometimes I was rocking 5 or 6 artifact charges which seemed wild. I swapped cracked core for frozen core so once I had my focus in place, the game played itself.

my biggest fear here was awakened one, because my hand is entirely power cards.. and I got him as my second act 3 boss. I played my power cards anyway and just outscaled the fuck out of him. he was hitting for like 130 by the end but I was blocking for 350 a turn at my peak. I eventually just stopped taking turns and let a dark orb power up to 350 (only took two turns thanks to focus and all my Loops) and killed him in one hit.

the sword and shield was scarier than the heart, and I knew that going in since they hit hard right at the start. I managed to beat that at full hp though thanks to skipping echo form and just going wild on focus since it's a short fight. the heart's beat hit me a few times, but other than that, no big deal. I finished the fight at full hp.

This topic made me give this game another go. I played it once for like an hour earlier in the year and had fun but died somewhere in Act 2 and wasn't feeling the roguelike idea of going back to the start with nothing each time so just left it.

Tried it again yesterday (with Silent) and had a much better time of it, not sure if I got lucky with the cards or Silent just plays better for me, but I managed to beat it kinda? I don't think I properly did it but it gave me the achievement for beating the game and rolled credits, not sure if you can kill the heart properly I had no control over that. It was fun though and I see that things will unlock more as it goes now, not sure what ascension mode is but I unlocked it and another character so will see how things go. Can definitely see how people get addicted to this!

I had a nice Silent heart kill on a20 last night. runic pyramid was the heart of the run, with a number of 2 cost poison cards, tough bandages and two footworks for scaling. nothing super crazy, but the heart went down pretty easy.

I like how differently each character plays. 4th (and final I think) unlocked, gonna keep playing at least until I beat it with Ironclad and the new one. I fully expect it to get way too hard with whatever comes after that but right now it's great! A bit annoying to like finally get into the rhythm of the set of cards you have right as the run is ending though.

i saw monster train on game pass yesterday and almost installed it. Im afraid of getting hooked on another of these. I probably will today.

I had a good Ironclad run yesterday but got Dead Branch for the act 4 elite fight. I was doing a runic pyramid run (do not discard your hand) and didnt think about how Dead Branch could just wreck me if it gave me a bunch of bad cards that I couldnt get rid of. oh well.
