How in the hell are you going to pay $100,000,000 to acquire the most popular video podcast exclusively and not make video available across all of your apps? No one wants to watch a 2 or 3 hour podcasts on their phones geniuses, they want to watch it on their television.

People watch podcasts on their television? Uhhhhh, yeah? I mean I can't speak for everyone, but when I have a podcast on it's usually playing in the background on the tv, like someone might have the news on in the background. I'm definitely not intently watching it on my phone, lol --- "People incapable of guilt usually do have a good time" -Detective Rust Cohle ... Copied to Clipboard!

Uhhhhh, yeah? Just seems like listening to it would be enough to me for most podcasts I listen to. Maybe I'm a bad example though cuz I only listen to podcasts while driving. If I even listen to one lol I don't think the visual aspect of a Joe Rogan podcast or the like really adds anything imo. Maybe it's because if there's a visual aspect to a podcast I usually avoid it. I guess for shit like YMH I understand. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I remember when podcasts were audio-only. I suppose in a few years podcasts will be VR experiences with simulated tactile sensations so that people can grope the hosts and guests in real time.
Because podcasts have by then become a means to deliver erotic experiences much like ASMR has today, obviously. --- Sigs are rather pointless, except if it's to showcase animation and images. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the marketing department in the world's biggest music streaming service may have done one or two basic demographic analysis' of their users' listening/watching habits before signing a $100 million deal.

Rogan's average download per podcast were around 10 million. His YouTube channel would get around 4-10 million hits, maybe even more depending on the episode. Potentially cutting out 30-50% of your audience would qualify as incompetence imo. Obviously there could be some overlap, but it's unacceptable if it's even as low as 5-10% of the audience --- "People incapable of guilt usually do have a good time" -Detective Rust Cohle ... Not meaning that offensively. I used to work in marketing and you would not believe the amount of metrics they go into for things like this. So I just think it's a lot more likely that there's a very profound contractual or strategic reason why they didn't expand into video content. One point I would make is that they rarely just look at an audience in terms of size and think "yeah we need all those people, that's sure to work". if that kind of thinking worked, then instagram thots would actually have a profitable business model. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. https://imgur.com/ILz2ZbV ... But the metrics don't really matter. That's just to illustrate why this is so dumbfounding. They already offer video streaming on iOS and android so it's not like it's a tall order to extend that to things like game console apps, roku, ect There's not really a lot of nuance here. Rogan isn't premium content for spotify. Acquiring exclusivity of his show was a move to get people to move over to use their platform, and you absolutely want as many of those eyeballs as you can get. So if you're pretty obviously making a move into Google's territory why in the hell would you not roll out video onto all of your applications? If you're coming to compete with one of the most dominate media companies in the world you sure as shit better be bringing your A-game. I'm sure they will eventually, but rogan's deal was made half a year ago, there's zero reason to not have it done. And I don't exacly find it hard to believe in corporate incompetence from a company like spotify that's relatively young and has had a meteoric rise in the past 5 years. --- "People incapable of guilt usually do have a good time" -Detective Rust Cohle ...
