Board 8 > Do people like Ghosts 'n' Goblins?

Been thinking about the new announcement. Like... are there really Ghosts 'n' Goblins fans that are super excited for this?

I know it was really popular back in the day, but that was also when there were like only 10 good game franchises anyway so even second-tier platformers were deemed amazing when you got sick of Mario. Since then I never hear anyone clamor for more of it. There's no surplus of fanart or anything. People don't talk about it and request more installments like other dormant franchises. It's just, "Oh yeah, I used to play that a lot. I enjoyed it back then".

Basically I'm just wondering if the new announcement got people pumping their fists in the air and cheering for this like other game comebacks because I have difficulty imagining it.

I had Ghouls n Ghosts on Master System and loved it. I'd have bought this if it wasn't stuck on the Switch.

I think I like the idea of it more than I like it

I just think its neat when someone resurrects one of these old series, and theoretically an actual new G&G game could be fun.

I like it but Demon's Crest feels more refined and has aged better. The series would probably be more relevant if it took more if it's QoL updates.

This new game seems meh though. The PSP one seemed to feel like a real revival while this one seems to be more in the vein of New Super Mario Bros. "nostalgia and little else."

Ultimate GnG was kind of a clusterfuck due to the collectible system, to the point where they decided to just release a second version without it in Japan.

I think it could be good if it adopts a more modern approach to difficulty and mechanics. GnG has two major issues: Playing it is initially unrewarding/ A lot of the challenge comes from just general jank. I personally don't mind that too much, and it means I feel like a super hero for surviving even 10 minutes into the gameplay, but if either of those issues are even halfway solved it could be an incredible game.

Ghosts 'n' Goblins was ok, but I was a lot more fond of and familiar with Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts. As far as the new game goes, I don't really like the way it looks.

Looking at it in retrospect, Ghosts 'n Goblins has pretty terrible game design, and I'm pretty sure it's entirely kept afloat by nostalgia factor and the fact that there weren't as many better games to compare it to at the time. The GnG franchise would not do well today if it were only now being started.
