I hit like 405 once, 275 bench, and 3 something squat. But fuck that noise. I dont ever go above 2 plates on anything. All I care about is looking good. Anything higher and youre not competing is just dumb

The risk/reward seems way too skewed in the negative. Especially when you lift without someone checking your form.

It's pretty much the only essential weight lift. you can't really replicate it without barbells. you can, it just won't work your big muscles as much.

Yep, its tricky and takes practice. When I was younger deployed overseas lifting with west wide barbell guys, we used to go ham.

no point, I aint trying to go ham. Just keep the good shape. I will wear a belt for 135 reps, I go barefoot, and take my time doing every single rep

Jim Wendler says that is why people love them. Id say they are for me as well, but I have long arms. I did have a recent period where my squar was improving and my deadlift wasn't. Then found out it was because I was using a clean stance

the shins thing gets me. I always hold it out in front and that fucks me up

in fact I'm pretty sure I do every barbell lift wrong despite years of trying to get them right.

been trying to hit 405 for about a year. i also want to hit 225 on bench and 315 on squats. i just want to see where i'm at i was actually doing the 531 program until quarantine started and it just put everything on pause.

It's fine you don't want to but this is an incredibly dumb take. I like how YOUR limits are arbitrarily what someone should stop at or else they're just wasting their time lmao

I compete but even if I didn't, it's fun and also useful to be strong. It's insurance if you're ever in any number of bad situations (Scott Mendelson believes his freakish strength helped him walk away from a devastating car crash and it's a believable theory).
