as someone with major collector (hoarder) tendencies... why did anyone ever think this was acceptable, let alone a good idea?

Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!

I might have been willing to forgive them if they had stopped doing this FIFTEEN YEARS AGO but at this point it's too late, they've already burned through any good will I may have had.

Anyway, this was always an "off the record" policy that they didn't actually state anywhere--so I wouldn't be surprised if some managers still allow it off the record.

Also, do you have a source?

Good. It's essentially impossible to remove the adhesive left behind by that clear circle sticker thing.

I stopped going there because they couldn't accept a verbal request; I had to find the damn display box on the shelves and bring it to them so they could ring it up. Even then they'll automatically make it a used copy purchase if you don't catch it.

Ive legitimately gotten an empty game box there before. They gave me the game when I went back, but it wouldnt have happened if they hadnt opened the box to screw with it.

because you don't want to put a disc on the shelf that someone can just walk out of the store with. and like most things on the internet, they overreact how frequent this problem was.

Iirc it's so they can actually advertise they have something in stock, and they don't use dummy packaging because then they don't have to worry about whether they actually have something and have to pull the dummy packaging. Also it saves space.

So like, say they have 5 copies of a game.

Gut method: Put 4 copies in backstock, gut 1 and put that on floor. Sell 4 copies, finally sell gutted copy, you sold all 5, there's nothing on floor to suggest you have any copies. Done.
Dummy package method: Put all 5 copies in backstock, make dummy package and put on floor. Sell all 5 copies, now have to make sure dummy package is removed from floor (ie. You have to go find it).

Source is cashier said that and they changed their displays to have only display on shelves that have both used and new price. All games are now behind counter, even rare used games they don't have a display box for.

Um they straight up allow their employees to take the games home and PLAY them, then sell them as new. It's common and normal.

If this is true then they would no longer be allowed to do that.

The most insane thing is that if you make a big (or small) deal out of it they act like they're confused what you're even talking about, as if it's perfectly normal behavior in the human world to break the seal on a product and still sell it as new.

i never went there for new games unless it was a preorder and they had an exclusive bonus but i haven't went in like 5+ years now. i was just going to best buy with gamers club but that finally ended but i tend to still just get games from there or amazon on sale.

i don't get why they couldn't just be like everywhere else and just have a display case instead. just print out a few box covers and just throw them on the wall.

It should be sold as pre-owned. They claim that they dont play those copies, but that's a lie because I used to work and they would play those copies duringvtheir lunch break.

I suspect it was more than thr last copies.

If a game was say a year old, they gutted the new copies.

They're always supposed to have 1 copy that's gutted.

So if they only get 1 copy of a game in...it's getting gutted.

This is false, or at the very least false at the Hawaii locations. We could only borrow used games, and we would most certainly not label them as new.

I don't even mind them selling gutted copies. Just drop a bit off the price like most other stores. Just bought a new tablet today and saw they had a open box for $10 less. That's how it should be. Stop employees from playing them too.
