Current Events > After ~38 years of living in California, I'm moving to Arizona.

My friend and I are closing up our businesses and moving to Arizona, so we decided to take a trip out to Arizona to check out about 4-5 towns and to see if we liked it over there more than California.

This was my first time in Arizona since about 2003. My impression of Arizona is that it is incredibly clean and growing at a significant rate. The so-called hoods were clean compared to California. Even the homeless people we saw were cleaner and nicer than the ones in California, and we didnt see all that many homeless people.

The people in Arizona are very friendly in general. We went to a steakhouse and had dinner and drinks, and the food was amazing and cheap compared to steakhouses in California. Gas was about $2-$2.20 for the cheap stuff.

However, when we drove through Los Angeles, it was endless tent cities of homeless people along freeways, under bridges, etc. So Cal is now back in the purple tier, meaning they only allow very limited outdoor seating, I believe.

We also visited a gun store, and it felt so liberating to see firsthand the guns and high capacity magazines Ill be able to legally buy and open carry or conceal carry.

Also, I never knew that Travis Walton was allegedly abducted in AZ. I want to check out the abduction site as well as Roswell over in New Mexico. >_>

Yes, I know full well about the heat, but this was my first time there in the winter. I love the cold weather this time of year in Arizona. Ill put up with ~5-6 months of living on the surface of the sun to get away from California. Ill just pay for AC lol.

Agreed. My hometown in Santa Barbara county is unrecognizable. It used to be a great place to live and raise a family. Not anymore.

Phoenix and tuscon are multi-ethnic and fairly left leaning places. It's only the smaller towns where you really encounter the racism. There's over 5 million people in and around Phoenix. It's a massive place.

I live in Mesa, which is the largest municipality in the country, and is also basically a suburb of Phoenix. I've only been here 7 years, as a Midwestern guy, and I've seen the place grow so much since moving here. It's the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country, which is funny considering by 2050 its going to be uninhabitable lol

And you generally won't. No more than any other major metro area in the country anyway.

Also, Mesa has no sales tax on food, so it's handy to get groceries there.

There's a reason everything is gray and brown here: dust. We get frequent blowing dust and dust storms, any color other than brown or gray and your house just looks dirty all the time. There's really no fighting it lol.

Ehhh, there already exists democratic establishments there, I can't speak for TX, but here in Arizona, our democrats are closer to libertarians, honestly. They lean more left, but are still about personal liberty and don't want homeless everywhere. Maricopa county sheriff is a Democrat, and he's not remotely like Californian democrats.
