Will you be getting the shots in the December-April timeframe?

let's see what the majority will vote as doctors said getting the american public to trust in getting the vaccine is the tough part in stopping the deadly virus.

Depends on if it works, has zero/minimal side effects, is readily-available, etc...

Given the nature of the virus and its many mutations, a vaccine may be futile.

Personally, no. Several reasons. I don't get sick, I'm not high risk, I'm not a very public person, I'm never first in line for anything out of concern for glitches, and save it for those who would make better use of it.

I'll be heavily considering it but I'll need to know all the info first. I am at risk but I also react horribly to almost all medications that are safe for most people (and foods and drinks) so even if it's the best vaccine ever, it's still a large risk. On the other hand, I can't just stay home and avoid exposure either because I have to go to the doctor and hospital pretty often. It'll be a tough choice to make either way.

My understanding is that they rushed the red tape / paperwork, started producing the vaccine simultaneous to testing it rather than waiting, and for some certain phases were conducted simultaneously rather than one after the other. Not that safety steps were skipped.

Also, they will be rolling it out to the most vulnerable first, so there will be plenty of people worldwide getting it before it's available to the general public.

Plus (at least with Pfizer/Moderna) it's not like it's a live virus.

i very much doubt any of us will be getting the vaccine in the next 5 months, regardless of how we feel about it. i'd wager a guess that the vast majority of us (sans sunny) are under 60 years old. the very earliest people 50 and older, 40 and older, 30, etc will probably be quarter 3 of next year, and that's being optimistic, ok?

From how I understand it, you need to get first dose, and a second dose 4 weeks later. The reasoning is since some people get covid a second time, a quick booster will allow your body to get the idea to keep the anti bodies, instead of getting rid of them. Not sure if thats it, but thats how I understand it.

Actually it looks like ages 18-30 are going to get it before 31-64 (maybe because this group has been exhibiting riskier behavior and have more spreaders).
(not including people with conditions that make them more vulnerable, those are earlier)

For the US, it is hopeful that it can be widely distributed by April/May.

^ young adults has been defined in more details in other publications as 18-30, feel free to google if you like this phased plan is pretty standard

By April, probably not. For one thing, I'm not high-risk enough to qualify for it until a supply is a little more established (asthmatic, but pretty mildly so, and otherwise young and in good shape, plus able to work from home so my exposure risk is relatively low). For another, I'm inclined to wait a bit longer to ensure the vaccine is safe. June-July, maybe, but not April and certainly not sooner than that.

That's the gist of it. You get stronger, longer-lasting immunity with a booster shot than from a single dose. That's why Hep B's vaccine is delivered in three shots, HPV in two, and there are a bunch of newborn/toddler vaccines that get repeated several times over those first few years.

I judge for myself as it would be something I put in my body. I don't need to be "qualified" in shit to trust or not trust something. I'll let others be the guinea pigs until I'm satisfied and even then I might not even bother. My body, my choice. You can do whatever you want I don't care.

...do you apply the same level of scrutiny for when a doctor diagnoses you with any condition and prescribes a course of treatment?

Or is it just paranoia about vaccines for some illogical reason?

As the treatment has been tested for years not really. If it's new treatment I'd certainly be apprehensive.

Or is it just paranoia about vaccines for some illogical reason?

Paranoia over new medicine is probably more accurate. I don't see how this is illogical.

I'd hope so. There's so many stories of doctors misdiagnosing and over prescribing that you shouldn't settle for just any mcdiagnosis they rush you out with to move on to their next patient if it doesn't adequately meet your needs.

Everyone should be skeptical of doctors treatments or prescriptions because doctors are far from infallible. Why do you think malpractice is a thing? Or getting a second opinion is a thing? In fact, I would argue I've had more negative experiences with doctors than positive from being overly prescribed things like opioids and antibiotics to just flat out wrong diagnoses.

Some years ago I went to the doc having extreme pain in my lower sides (what I approximated to be my kidneys) and told them what I was experiencing. I asked my doc if it might be kidney stones or something based upon experiences my friends/family had had. He said, 'Nah it can't be that'. Long story short after a couple of visits I ended up getting a surgical consult for my gallbladder because they showed gallstones in a CT. I explained to the surgeon the symptoms I had which brought me to the doctor in the first place and he's like, 'What? Your gallbladder has nothing to do with the pain you've been experiencing. They're in completely different parts of the body and have completely different symptoms. You have gallstones but if you're not experiencing any of those symptoms, I wouldn't recommend its removal. It doesn't have anything to do with what you're experiencing. Go see a urologist'.

So I finally go see a urologist and he correctly identifies it as a kidney infection and we get it figured out.

You shouldn't outright ignore a doctors opinion, but let's not pretend they can't be wildly wrong and that you should just do everything they say without thinking critically about it or doing your own due diligence.

I don't doubt that the scientists and doctors are competent enough to produce a safe, effective vaccine. I do doubt that the executives paying them are willing to be patient and let them take the full time they need in order to do so when so much glory and profit is riding on being the first to get out a vaccine. I also recognize that everyone involved is feeling a ton of pressure (from the pandemic itself, not even considering executive meddling) and wants to get something out quickly, and that working under that kind of pressure can result in overlooking or forgetting something.

There will definitely be a good vaccine eventually, and I have nothing against vaccines as a whole, but I'll still be skeptical of anything that comes out before next year because I know that's a very accelerated timeline for vaccine development.

Fair. There is concern that the vaccine will protect the vaccinated from having severe symptoms but not reduce spreading it asymptomatically to unvaccinated people (which is why we'll have to keep masks going for awhile).

I was replying to someone talking about doctors misdiagnosing or being mcdoctors. I don't think that's really relevant to experts focusing on one thing.
