Calling it a game is a stretch to me. But yeah, I've tried out a ouija board. It amazes me that people still put this connection to the occult on them when they were literally invented as a parlor trick. Like, their origins aren't some creepy or mysterious practice from the dark ages, but a product developed in the late 19th century to entertain.

A trick. Maybe a toy (which Hasbro is also known for making). I get why it's marketed as a game, because marketing it as a toy or a trick takes away some of the mystique, but to me games need to have an outcome or a goal to feasibly achieve. The "goal" of talking to a ghost through a ouija board is not actually possible and most the enjoyment of this product tends to come from one user tricking the others. You could definitely make the case for it being a game in the sense that it's the goal of one person to get the others to believe in ghosts and whatnot, but then it's really just a game one person knows about while the rest are being duped. The semantics of whether it's a game, a trick, or a toy are not all that important to me though. If someone wants to call it a game I'm not going to stop them.

My sister used it to mess with my brother and I when we were kids.

That, or there was an actual vengeful spirit living in our mobile home

My parents have this old story where they were using a ouija board, trying to derive a name or something like that, and while I can't remember the details, the culmination of the story ends with the board exploding and blowing a hole in the ground.

...yeah... does that sound very un-scientific? yes

But it's a cool sounding story nonetheless

Whether you believe there is or believe there isn't, you're still treating a belief as a fact.

As for the topic question, I have not, and I would not use one lightly, which isn't to say I would absolutely never use one at all.

I'm not arguing a toss with you yet again. Life after death isn't a thing. Believe what you want and justify that anyway you want but until I'm proved wrong (yeah right) you can live in false hope if that makes life better for you. I only wish I could believe the same.

There's no proof either way, so to say with complete confidence there is nothing after death is disingenuous. Personally, I'm inclined to believe there's *something* after death. Not in the sense of us turning into ghosts or anything, but here's how I see it:

Everything is made up of smaller things. Your body is made of organs that are made of cells that are made of atoms that are made of sub-atomical particles. To me, it makes sense that our consciousness is the construct of smaller things working together. When we die, our body decomposes and all the little sub-atomical particles disperse and rejoin the cosmos. I think the same thing happens to whatever is responsible for our consciousness. It is ripped apart and spread across the cosmos to grow anew. In a way, one can argue that that is life after death. The continuous cycle of death and regrowth.

I'm actually not familiar with the spelling, nor the game itself. The few times I've heard of the contraption it's always sounded like "weegee board" to me and I'd always figured it was spelled similarly. =p

This. Unless somebody goes in wanting to monkey with it, the thing will just sit there or whatever results won't make sense because they'll come from variations in hand pressure.

And, not for nothing, movies involved Ouija boards are typically terrible (for horror, anyway -- maybe other genres do it better)

Can't argue against that well thought out logic. Saying a well known fact isn't a fact is exactly the same thing. Also I don't need to prove shit.

Exactly. It's up to those who believe in a afterlife to prove me wrong on my claim that there isn't one. As they can't do that we are at a stalemate.
