Do you think this was intentional on her part and racist?

Sherry Prose, a part time cop in Michigan has been fired after sharing a photo of Joe Biden, Mike Pence, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in a Halloween Photo that started circulating online...and she clais it's NOT RACIST!!

She was terminated when officials became aware of this offensive picture as she's worked for the agency for over 25 YEARS.

Undersheriff Michael McGabe said "We are outraged by this former employee's actions and condemn the behaviour she chose to engage in. These types of incidents are disgusting and will never be tolerated or pushed aside at the sheriff's office"

Revered Dr Wendell Anthony called it racist and says it grows out of the past and a recognition that often is linked to buffoonery and to less than as he believes its intent was purposely structured to diminish and to dilute the significance of the first African American VP

Prose removed it before shutting down her FB completely after one of her FRIENDS shared that picture and said "I worked hard in my law enforcement career and i am proud of the reputation that i earned in my 30 plus years of service. I'm not a racist and never will be as these pictures were not of that intent"

Do you think she did this on purpose and is racist?

I'm sure someone is going to argue that the people who think it's racial are racist though.

Considering that no actual effort seems to have been made to make a decent jack 'o lantern out of the watermelon, it seems pretty undeniable that the use of the watermelon itself is the focus of that one rather than any possible kind of positive complementary racial acknowledgement. Seriously, the low effort on that face clearly shows contempt.

I'm not entirely sure what "part time cop" means. The picture is obviously racist it doesn't really have any purpose as the faces carved on the fruits don't seem to have any relation to the politicians listed rather the only thing that seems to have any connection is Kamala and watermelon. There are levels to racism and this is pretty low on the ladder.

It's very obviously racist, though pretty mildly so. It had the potential to be an entertaining racist joke (along the lines of "Black Wiis have more storage space"), but it was executed very poorly, and making any sort of joke that's racist against black people is a really bad look for any public servant (especially a cop) to have in the current political climate. I'm okay with firing her for being really bad at reading the room.

Looking at the images alone, I can perceive the comparison. Ignoring the color, a watermelon is not a pumpkin. And kamala, a black-ish (?) woman is not an old, white guy.

As with all tweets, they did not provide enough context to justify the tweet was not racist.

I don't think it's that prevalent in the US either as the only place I see it brought up is on the internet.
From the reaction I would have assumed the opposite, that one particular race just doesn't like watermelon.

Ok then let me explain this. She worked for the state. The specfic body was law enforcement. Sow in this very specific iteration the law penelized her for her extremely shitty opinion. So yes it is a very obvious example of the first amendment. However there is a caveat in that this also allows companies to have moral clauses that can get you fired (chikafila) however state agencies tend not get the morale code hence reason trump and most of congress are allowed to operate.

So yeah she should be protected by the first ammendment purely in the context that the first ammendment was written in a way to permit racism and sorely needs to be updated as alot of the current constitution needs to be updated as certain terms and concepts did not exist as of its writing.

It is for the most part. It's also a rather outdated stereotype (alongside "black people love fried chicken and black-eyed peas") and doesn't really have any relevance to today's culture (most people like watermelon and fried chicken and we don't inherently associate them with poverty/black people in the modern era much anymore) so it tends to only come up when you're confronted with someone who is brazenly old-school racist. It's rarity in today's era is precisely why it's standing out to so many posters as being really racist, because you have to be a special kind of dumb-fuck to simultaneously be aware of this idiocy and then choose to perpetuate it.

This argument makes no sense. By extension, going out in public and yelling the N word or other legal (but derogatory) things at black Americans shouldn't lead to being let go from the force.

Technically thats the truth. Why do you think Ilhan Omar of MN wasnt fired over her anti semitic outburst. Technically hate speech is legal and that is what is the problem. Atleast in germany you can face criminal prosecution if you try to deny the Holocaust. In american its just telling your drunk uncle to shut up and eat the turkey.

The only way this applies is police are government agencies paid by taxes. So being fired would be protected under the First Amendment due to speech. She probably waived that right after not doubling down on the racism by claiming it wasn't racist therefore would lose any civil lawsuit.
