Has the gameplay change affected the overall length of the game?

I love Yakuza games, but I do sometimes get fatigue towards the end, especially with Y5.

I beat the final boss at 65 hours and got the plat at 82 hours

Right I don't tend to go quite that deep.

With most Yakuza games I'll clear visible substories, clear the main subquest (Club Management, Host, Real Estate, Baseball, Taxi Driver/racing etc)

I don't tend to clear the upper end challenges though.

40 hours would be a good fill for me, but I haven't played Kiwami 2, Judgment or Fist of the North star, so might be ok with a 70 hour experience.

Pretty impressed with the dub, Majima and Saejima sound great. There are folks still mad about the mere existence of the dub but they're losers so whatever.

Sticking to Japanese for my first run but when I go back to replay and plat the series I'll be doing English.

if Majima's not Mark Hamill what's the point

I read even if using the dub they still use Japanese voices during combat for some of the characters

I'm up to chapter 3 and I'm really enjoying the dub so far, though I haven't played much of the rest of the series, so maybe that's helping.

Also I suck at shogi, but I really like puzzle shogi.

shogi is easier to learn the rules of than mahjong. it's chess with somewhat modified rules

Yakuza was a big part of me learning Mahjong well enough to actually play it in real life but after all these games I still haven't even attempted to really learn Shogi.

I ended up learning Mahjong because of these games as well. But i was never into chess so always looked up guides for the shogi stuff.

Ive been told the best way to do the shogi stuff if youre bad at it, is to download an app, play against the highest level AI and do the moves your opponent does and then do the moves the AI does in game.

I will probably just accept that I will never do the shogi stuff. Can collecting on the other hand, woooo!

Oh, is it like the ones with videos? I literally only know them from the Metal Gear Solid 3 one Konami did with all the remastered cutscenes. That makes more sense.

Yakuza is normally a beat em up flavored lovechild of Shenmue and River City Ransom. This particular game is switching up the genre.

I've been playing on PC and it's been an exceptional experience. Apparently this is the first game that they handled the PC version internally and it really shows. I kind of had to do a reality check on launch night that I was playing a brand new Yakuza game with both gameplay and cutscenes running at 144 fps without any ini tweaking.

It's super bizarre but the eight pages of tutorials on shareholder meetings don't actually explain *at all* how you're supposed to win.

Short version is breaking guards is just rock paper scissors and you have to use the right color. After their guard is down you do damage relative to the charisma of the employee you pick. The gauge in the middle is your cost-to-deploy and different employees take different amounts of it. You can restore the gauge and do some damage by using the higher-level apologies.

The actual management feels way more straightforward - I don't have a "winning strategy" picked out for myself yet to make things go super fast but it seems like it's pretty hard to completely bungle it.

Yes. It does contain a few characters from some of the later games, but I don't believe it does it in a way where it's important you know much about them.

The scale of this game is kind of starting to blow my mind. It starts out feeling more along the lines of Judgment (which was great because the small scale was the whole point of that game) but as it goes on it really drops any illusions that this is somehow anything less than a deserving mainline entry.
