I'm working on making a mostly-all piano soundtrack to a game, however I am not a "real" pianist and would like to hear from one on what they think:
https://youtu.be/up1asa-kvLA I'm mostly a bass player but have really started to practice piano for this project. I will say this, it's hard asf!! P.S: The drum playback quality in this sounds like ass but it sounds better in the real thing. --- Bone Appetit, my skeleton Metroidvania! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1256520 ... Sounds a little 'busy' to me personally.
The hardest part about piano is that it can do everything, and it doesn't need to. It has to play with whatever is with it. No bass guitar? Play the bass notes. No horn section? Play the horn section's parts. No drums? Play more rhythmically. I'd try seeing if you can sustain some chords in the right hand if you want to keep the moving bass or add some more half/whole notes in the bass line. Without drums, I think it would work as written, but with the beat driving, I don't think you need all of the movement. ... Copied to Clipboard!

My opinion was almost the opposite - like if after a loop or so a reed flute would kick in Yeah, it could use more of a melody/descant line. Nothing too complex, rhythmically (in fact, you'd probably be best off with just throwing a few whole note chords in), but a little something to give it some more depth. I agree that the bass line doesn't necessarily need to move so much, especially with the drums, but just looping like that is a little dull. --- This is my signature. As someone who played piano a while back, this is amazing. I myself would add some chords and use a bit more of the piano, but thats my personal preference; I dont know about the game youre making but you got this!

I almost might take the drums completely out and see how that sounds. --- Bone Appetit, my skeleton Metroidvania! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1256520 ... Copied to Clipboard!

No, it's just a $100 Yamaha job I got a couple years ago to replace my even crappier old keyboard. I'm thinking once I get some extra dough though I want to get something better. Nothing stupid expensive but I'm really enjoying keyboard a lot. It's just a little ditty that plays over the title screen which is why it's so short. Lokarin posted... what would the song sound like in legato swing?
