If he guy posting this can is to be believed ... this guy is still on the force, I can't find out if he still on the force myself. However I do know that..

He beat up a kid and lied about . The kid was going to jail and arrested until the video showed up. He lied on the police report saying the kid attacked him. So tell me why should anyone EVER trust a cop.

They sometimes comply to what the public wants for show, don't actually give a single fuck about incidents like this, and continue being scumbag people. That's why, and that's why nothing has changed, and nothing will change. There is no accountability for the crimes police officers commit, they get a pass, they always have. That's why they aren't afraid to keep beating kids, and shoot fleeing suspects in the back fatally.

Then that means jack diddly since it doesn't have anything to do with why "anyone should EVER trust a cop". If a city is known for having corrupt officials then you're right to be suspicious of them. But to let that poison your impression of EVERY person who shares their occupation is foolhardy.

@YugiNoob do you trust all politicians too? And all Lawyers?

What about everyday people you meet? Do you initially give everyone your trust and then only take it away when they break it?

or do you let people earn their trust?

serious question.

I trust people until they give me reason not to. And I work with a crapton of lawyers so don't go badmouthing them; they can be very nice, since once again, the actions of some shouldn't create the impression for all.

okay. And I know a bunch of lawyers too, so dont clutch your pearls just yet.

All Im gonna say is props to you. I let people build trust over time. It seems to me that youre confusing trust for just openness and treating people fairly. Like, people can start as a blank slate where you give them chances but still be cautious.

but thats whatever, I appreciate the answer. I really do.

onto the discussion as a whole: Not trusting cops doesnt mean you hate every single cop. For me personally I know cops and Ive fallen out with a few I knew but retained others. A lot of cops are enabling a system, it doesnt matter if they mean to or not, its just the truth. I know a few of those cops believe they are trying to change the system from the inside and I say keep fighting the good fight. Its still an industry thats systematically rotten and needs to be revised and reformed with better focus and standardization. By standardization I mean in accountability.

but thats just my opinion. To change the system there needs to be clear backing at the federal level for whistleblowers and shit. IA only does so much and has its own issues. And I mean thats still just barely scratching the surface.

Defending the shit aint doing anyone any good and the thing people miss the most is that its not helping the good cops.

Now this is a good response. I strongly agree that they really do need to encourage whistleblowing and up accountability so cops face repercussions rather than paid leave when they fuck up.
