Yeah. A lot more tired. I dont know if I burned myself out with my lifestyle since 2017 or if its just a symptom of getting to 30

Absolutely. I feel like I need a nap every afternoon these days. I'm still a morning person though. I'm pretty much wide awake as soon as I step out of bed.

Definitely. 5 years ago, I would lift for an hour and a half right after a 10 hour shift and still not be tired for another 3/4 hours. Now it's hard to motivate myself to workout on an off day.

Yes, but part of that is since I work from home and only leave the house for essential items, I tend to take 1-2 hour naps throughout the day as opposed to sleeping 6-7 hours a night.

Since being furloughed, I don't feel as energetic but before then I might have had more energy than 5 or 10 years ago because earlier this year I was keeping up with an insane amount of stuff -- I was working full-time, I was also working in sales on the weekend (because a friend who was making six-figures while having massive amounts of free time arm-twisted me into it), and I had a lot of stuff for my side-hustle going on. In general, I find the more you have to do, the more energy you have to do it and your body quickly adjusts. I've gone from sleeping 3-4 hours a night (sometimes less) to sleeping maybe 5-6 hours a night, which is fucking crazy for me.

Sadly there's no cure, however you can take a pill for it everyday (Levothyroxine). I got diagnosed maybe 4 years ago after I was just inhumanly tired all the time. I just figured it was because I worked a lot and had kids and running around and etc, who knew?

I never heard of it before I got the call either, I thought I was dying lol

Yes and no, maybe? I recalled staying up Friday nights to 5-6 AM playing video games and waking up around 10 AM Saturday to do stuff. Now it is more like sleeping at 1-2 AM and waking up around 7-8 AM to do stuff. After college several years ago, I am still in the habit of staying up late and getting 3-4 hours of sleep before waking up for work. I do find myself taking naps nowadays but trying to shift most of my daily tasks to the morning instead of afternoon and evening.

On that note, is it fair to say the average age of GameFAQers have gone up? Do younger gamers even use GameFAQs for guides, social boards, etc. or Reddit, Discord, etc. have become the norm for that?

Hashimoto's disease is basically just an autoimmune version of hypothyroidism. For whatever reason, your body's immune system decides it doesn't like your thyroid and starts murdering it, resulting in decreased levels of thyroxine (which regulates pretty much all metabolism). Treating it with levothyroxine (commonly known under the brand name "Synthroid," but that patent has long since expired and generics are everywhere) just means you're replacing the thyroxine you should be making with synthetic stuff from a pill. It's virtually identical to natural thyroxine, so provided you get the dosage right and don't accidentally give yourself hyperthyroidism, there shouldn't be any side effects (much like taking insulin).

Apparently there can be, but I don't think I have any.

One drawback is you can't drink a ton of milk for a while after you take it, or they don't work as well I guess. I can't swallow pills and luckily they don't taste super bitter like an aspirin or burn your mouth up like Alleve.

Yep, this sums it up nicely.

The weird thing is I thought for sure I'd have hyperhtyroidism, and not hypothyroidism, since I am skinny as shit and have the one that's supposed to make you gain a ton of weight. I'm hoping taking the replacement vittles also prevents the attack on the thyroid, so far so good.

It can be weird like that. My girlfriend was diagnosed ~2.5 years ago (just had her dosage upped, actually), and she didn't really gain any weight as her symptoms got worse leading up to the diagnosis. She did have the crippling fatigue, though, as well as some hair loss and a goitre. I know it can affect appetite as well, which can result in weight being maintained despite the lower BMR.

Now, the cat we adopted that turned out to have pretty severe untreated hyperthyroidism? As soon as we treated her she like doubled in weight. When we first had her examined, the vet remarked that she had a lot of loose skin like she'd recently lost a lot of weight, but seeing her inflate to fill that extra skin was kind of hilarious. She still has some loose skin despite being quite chubby now (not catastrophically, plus she's 17, so we aren't exactly desperate to optimize her lifespan by making sure her weight is perfect), which really makes me wonder just how fat she was before her thyroid went crazy.

I feel less tired because, a little over 5 years ago, I used to work 30+ hours a week part time. Now, thanks to the change as to what qualifies as 'part time', I only work 25+ hours a week. That doesn't mean that the amount of work I have to do has changed; it's just that I have less time to do that work in.

How did you wind up with a cat that old?

A local fostering agency put up a courtesy post for a 15-year-old cat whose owner had died, since his roommates were moving and couldn't bring her along, and his family wanted nothing to do with her and planned to throw her out on the street (as a 15-year-old, front declawed cat who'd only ever lived indoors... you can guess how that would have ended). We were looking to adopt a cat, and aiming specifically for senior ones because they tend to be more neglected than kittens, so we expressed interest in her, figuring we'd probably be one of many.

A couple days passed and we ended up adopting another (8-year-old) cat from a shelter and figuring that was that, only to hear back from the fostering agency saying that we were the only ones who inquired about her. We figured it probably wasn't a great idea to adopt a second cat so quickly, especially where she was advertised as being best suited for a one-cat household, but we agreed to go meet her anyway to see if she liked us well enough to be worth a shot. We got there, and the house she was living in was one of the most disgusting shitholes I have ever seen in my life. There was moldy food sitting out everywhere with flies congregating around it, holes in the walls, tar stains in the carpet, the whole place reeked so badly of cigarettes that my breath smelled like an ashtray for a week, her litter box very clearly had not been cleaned in months because there was a foot-high pile of her poop in it, the family's idea of putting her out on the street entailed setting up a raccoon trap for her in her own house... We didn't even see her on the first visit because she was hiding, but we decided on the spot that we'd take her regardless of how she responded to us because we couldn't leave her in those conditions. We went back later that afternoon and actually met her, and she had an obvious eye infection and wasn't very happy to see strangers, but we took her anyway.

It took a while, but she eventually warmed up to us, despite a somewhat traumatic emergency vet trip that night (her vet records died with her owner, so we had no idea what that infection was or if she was FLV/FIV positive or otherwise dangerous for our other cat). Her hyperthyroidism didn't get diagnosed until a regular vet visit a few weeks later, but we got that sorted out pretty quickly, and now we've just got a periodically-cranky fat old lady with the voice of a lifelong chain smoker (think Estelle from Friends. That's her meow). We fully expected that she'd die shortly thereafter and we'd just have given her a few comfortable final months, but two years later, she's somehow still going strong.
