Do you think even if he was "accidentally" killed by a hunter, that hunter should still get the book thrown at them?

18 y/o Jason Kutt from Pennysylvania was shot in the NECK from BEHIND as he was watching the SUNSET with his girlfrend as police said it was possibly a HUNTER who mistook his head for a DEER!!

He was watching the sunset with his girlfriend when suddenly he was shot from behind with a bullet striking the back of his neck at 5:15pm!!

Paramedics were called as they rushed the teen to St Luke's University Hospital where he was pronounced dead

Kutt was with his girlfriend sitting at the edge of Old Ridge Road in front of a lake waiting for the sun to set when a gunshot rang out and struck him and he fell backwards.

His girlfriend saw a male hunter dressed in a bright orange vest standing behind a gate 500 feet away and then ran off.

People with hunting permits are allowed to hunt on state park as Satuday was the last day of the season when they could use firearms to hunt deer and small game

It would have been difficult to confuse Kutt, who is 6'3 and waring a hat with a bright orange brim for an animal as police say they want to get to the bottom of this as they don't know if it a crime has been committed yet

Prosecutor Weintraub has called on that hunter to come forward and share information on the shooting which he believes may have been a "terrible accident" as they AREN'T looking to charge that man but want answers

He said "If you are in fact responsible, if you have an explanation or some version of events that you want to explain to us, please come forward"

When asked if they thought Kutt may have had enemies, they say they are skeptical as there are no known enemies

Weintraub said he was a young kid with his whole life ahead of him who had done nothing wrong and that this was just a "terrible tragedy" as they are trying to figure out who was the end of that gun and whether a crime was committed

Kutt graduated from Pennridge High School and celebrated his 18th birthday this year who loved Video Games and going on hikes and spending time with his girlfriend.

Do you think even if this was an accidental shooting by a hunter, that jerk should STILl be charged?

I only agree with hunting when it's for survival. Hunting for sport is cruel. I'd love to hunt those people for sport.

I'd say murder.

Took aim at what is clearly a person (he was wearing an orange hat!), sitting next to another person, and shot right at the dude's neck.
Then ran off immediately afterward so he wouldn't be identified.

Hopefully the insanely concilliatory tone from the cops is just to lull him into turning himself in and they have no actual intention of even considering this an accident.

Allowing hunting in a state park full of people is a terrible idea. Where it happened also (red) was also kinda away from the area labeled gamelands...but I think the park allows hunting in most places but reserves some areas for archery.

Yeah I was expecting this to be some yuppie walking around thepark disregarding the situation. However the teen wearing appropriate garb. This hunter had a supreme disregard to gun safety. Especially when its a game item that most states have rules where you have to count the amount of points on one side before you can take the shot.
https://www.maine.gov/ifw/hunting-trapping/hunting-laws/deer-hunting.html
Hunting of antlerless deer (a deer that has no antlers or has antlers less than 3 inches in length measured from the skull) is prohibited except by special permit during both the firearms season and the muzzleloader season.

Feels like he should, simply because he's now wasting police time having fled the scene. Even if the hunting accident was 100% excusable, he's caused problems by not coming forward.

If he was just there, it seems unlikely he was in orange. And if he had been in orange, I kinda feel like Ducky would have mentioned that.

A hat with an orange brim isn't what most people have in mind when they say "wearing orange." And keep in mind he wasn't shot from the front so his hat -- which could have been a baseball or other sports cap -- might not have even had any orange facing that direction and that's ON TOP of the fact it'd be hard to see anyway. A completely orange hat would be one thing (although that's *still* not a huge amount of orange), but merely the brim isn't going to be a huge help.

Potentially, but it still had an orange brim, and I don't know what kind of weird baseball caps you're familiar with, but the ones I know aren't exactly shaped like a deer.

Regardless of orange the hunter failed to identify his target. Did not validate the points which again means he had clear disregard of the law when he pulled the trigger. The only thing separating this from manslaughter and murder is going to be motive. That is if they dont fill the grand jury with a bunch of nra members who defend every shooting unless you know

I see nothing wrong with the act of hunting but honestly people like this almost make me want to side with peta (same amount of animals killed either way) just to keep people who
1. Idiots who shoot across another persons yard at the target witgout permission (made reports on this a few times)
2. People who shoot towards houses while being unreasonably close
3. People who using the wrong tool for the job (seriously why take a deer rifle squirrel hunting)
4. Pretty much any redneck they show hunting or fishing on animal planet.
5. Not a hunter but the jackasses that dont prep for the trip they are going on and end up causing a million dollar search and rescue

Because guns don't work like that. He will fall based off of his footing and weight distribution, the bullet impact won't really "push" him one way or the other.
