Eh, no incentive since they have backwards compatibility. They'd rather get a new customer in their PS5 ecosystem than their PS4 one.

Consoles sitting on store shelves and in their own warehouses are sunk costs since they've already paid money to have them manufactured.

Sony hasn't had a sale on their consoles since last Black Friday. That is nuts.

I mean Xbox has already stopped producing their consoles and the pandemic boosted sales of gaming everything (remember when you couldn't find a Switch or a PS4)? I really doubt there's that much leftover stock lying around waiting to be moved.

Thanks to COVID I don't think this is an issue. All console hardware has been selling well lately.
