Be safe. How much do you stand to lose if things go down the tube?

Stay safe, weaku!

A friend of mine is just barely inside the evacuation zone and had to roll out this morning. My girlfriend lives in the area too so I'm hoping they lock this one down reasonably quickly. X_X

Luckily I'm in an area that isn't a burn area but air quality was already trash when I woke up, the skies look awful and the wind is crazy.

Looks like 2 firefighters already seriously hurt in Irvine because the winds are very high and unpredictable.

Impossible to control with the winds going on right now.

Honest question, why do people still bother to live in California with the amount of wildfires they have, coupled with the homeless people and the threat of a massive world ending earthquake?

How many of these things do you think impact us, and do you think the last one is even true?

I mean

does it really matter where you are when a world ending earthquake happens

I lived in California for 25 years and not once did a homeless person or earthquake ever affect me, and wildfires were a minor inconvenience from time to time.

Most places in the world are susceptible to some sort of natural disaster but people always single out California for some reason.

The same question applies to people that live on the Gulf Coast or tornado alley

There are lots of places in the world where dying or losing your house in a natural disaster is a completely foreign concept, so it always shocks me that people willingly live in these areas.

As for homeless people, any time I ever talk to somebody in California, all they talk about is how bad the homeless/junkie population is, and how they can't walk down the sidewalk without stepping in human feces.

Are there? I guess my local disasters (blizzards and the odd tornado) are a bit less deadly and destructive than most, but I can't think of anywhere in the US at least that I would consider that kinda thing "a completely foreign concept"

When you eliminate any states with a threat of wildfire, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, blizzard, volcano, or summer heatwaves that melt your brains when you step outside like Phoenix, AZ, which ones are even left? Also apparently they can't have homeless populations either. I guess we all go pile into, I dunno, South Dakota?

I see. While we are making stuff up, I live in California and anytime I walk outside on the sidewalk all the rich billionaires come out and hand me hundred dollar bills they don't need. It's great.

I moved to San Francisco and have lived in the Bay Area almost a year now.

I think the homeless problem is pretty rough, in the city and certain parts of the Bay. Haven't experienced one earthquake. But the thing that's a killer are the fires. They seem to have happened a lot this year and spread ash and shitty air quality around to the bay.

Overall there's no snow in winter so it's an improvement from the other places I lived in PA and surrounding states.

I dunno if I'll live here my whole life. I'd probably be saying differently if I could actually enjoy everything that SF has to offer this year, but Covid-19 has made it kind of a sad time as it's kept me from going out and meeting new people and having fun everywhere and I miss my friends and family a lot.

But I'm making bank so there is that.

Hell yeah Ginny. I'm down.

I live in Pleasant Hill now. My girlfriend and I have been exploring more of Walnut Creek as of late. They have a good set up downtown for outdoor dining. We hit up Broderick last weekend for brunch and it was divine.

How much bad shit does Colorado have? Landslides and some blizzards? It seems they've got their own wildfire problems going on, too, I suppose.
